    1. Re: [SR-NEWBIE] Program conflict?
    2. Velma Finley
    3. Sorry, I've been off-line for several months, and I'm just now getting caught up on all my email. I have a question for Woody.  I had Zone-Alarm for a long time and really did like it.  But a while back I got rid of it, because they kept bugging me to sign up to buy things.  Then when I got a new computer I decided I'd try again, and I couldn't even download it without buying something.  I don't call that "free".  Has anyone else had this experience? Thanks, Velma ----- Original Message ---- From: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Wed, December 23, 2009 3:07:13 AM Subject: Re: [SR-NEWBIE] Program conflict? Barbra WinXP's firewall isn't much good.  (Vista's is OK.)  I  recommend the free ZoneAlarm firewall located  at http://download.cnet.com/ZoneAlarm/3000-10435_4-10039884.html (Lots of  download buttons on the page.  It's the one next to 38.38mb) If you haven't performed a Disk Cleanup in a while, do that and see if that speeds up the computer. Avira, AdAware, SpywareBlaster, and Spybot all are good, and  their use means you're not loaded down with "phone home" spyware and you're  OK there. Run "Malwarebytes" to see if you have something lurking on your  computer. Download at _http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10826546.htm l_ (http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10826546.html) The  proper download button on the above Malwarebytes download web page is  deceptively small.  The small green button for Malwarebytes is on the left  side of the page where it says: "A newer version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is available. Download  the latest version | Learn more about Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.42" Woody ======================= [email protected]  writes: I have a Dell Dimension 2400 and run Win XP.  I have Avira  anti-virus, AdAware, Spyware Blaster, and Spybot Search and Destroy.  I  use the Windows firewall.  Can anyone tell me if there is a conflict  among these programs? 2. When I was using Dialup for them, I found I had to wait a long time for them to load. I could watch some and then have to wait on it to load some more. I played a lot of solitare games while waiting for them to load.

    3. Hello Gold, Monday, February 22, 2010, 5:44:31 PM, you wrote: G> Is there a different way to email a word doc... Sure is :-) Create a new e-mail in the usual way then use the 'Attach Files' to browse through the documents on your system to find the word document. All e-mail programs have this functionality it's just a question of looking for the menu or link to start the process and follow it through. Can be a little daunting at first but once used to sending files this way you'll find it much easier I'm sure :-) -- Best regards, Barry mailto:[email protected] MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 9.10'Karmic'

If you upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 with a suspect registry then the chances are it's going to fail so it would be better to do a clean install where all remains of Vista are erased and yes this will create a new pristine registry all ready for Windows to clutter up with junk again <lol> Of course you'd need to back up all your data but that's always a good idea anyway and especially when a Windows OS update is done !! -- Best regards, Barry mailto:[email protected] MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 9.10'Karmic'

I want you to know that we went back to Facebook after having received the previously referenced notice, typed in the word delete in a rather unlikely place. It was typed into a line that appeared somewhere on the page but was not conneted to our account---at least not that we could see it. We had to sign out by answering a couple of questions and then copying two of those skewed letters/words. Finally, after several minutes, we had a message from Facebook Team that read in part "if you do not sign into your account for fifteen consecutive days, your Facebook account will be permanently deleted". Looks as though we may be _out_. Thanks again for the help and encouragement. 2. Arrrrgh!!!! Sorry for the unintended sending of my last e-mail. Hoo-boy. Anyways, what I wanted to say was for those that remain on Facebook, do NOT join the "Facebook Gold" fan club or "account". That is some kind of scam/hoax that has no connection at all to Facebook. In fact, it takes one to an external web site. Those 1400+ "wowie this is great" comments to the side are extracted and inserted (stolen) from another site. One can't even make a comment on the page, so how can anyone else? Go to the Facebook "help center" and enter "Facebook Gold" or "Gold", and there are numerous entries with "What is Facebook Gold" and related entries. So stay away from it. I'm passing this along because I've seen friends drawn into it, and I don't want anyone being duped by this scam/hoax. 2. I think people need to realize that deactivation of an account means that none of your information is PUBLICLY accessible--just stored privately in case you want to reactivate it. I also think anyone who has placed photos or other content on Facebook that they wouldn't want to lose should think twice about DELETING their account information. You may find at some future time you will need to have the copy of the photos you uploaded to Facebook should you ever lose the copy on your computer. Joan In a message dated 2/7/2010 9:44:03 P.M. 1. Re: [SR-NEWBIE] Help getting out of Facebook
    2. For those who wish to remove themselves completely from Facebook, one must delete one's account, rather than "deactivate" (inactivate). "Deactivate" means you're an inactive member, and your "stuff" is still there. To delete one's Facebook account, the process is sort of hidden away. To delete, 1. go to "Help Center" 2. Put the word "deactivation" in the search block (in the Help Center search block) 3. Go down to where it says: "How do I permanently delete my account? If you deactivate your account from the "Deactivate Account" section o... If you deactivate your account from the "Deactivate Account" section on the Account page, your profile and all information associated with it are immediately made inaccessible to other Facebook users. What this means is that you effectively disappear from the Facebook service. However, if you want to reactivate at some point, we do save your profile information (friends, photos, interests, etc.), and your account will look just the way it did when you deactivated if you decide to reactivate it. Many users deactivate their accounts for temporary reasons and expect their information to be there when they return to the service. If you do not think you will use Facebook again and would like your account deleted, please keep in mind that you will not be able to reactivate your account or retrieve any of the content or information you have added. If you would like your account permanently deleted with no option for recovery, log in to your account and then submit your request by clicking HERE." 4. Click on the blued "HERE" (I didn't click on "HERE" to see what happens, but that surely gets one on the way to deleting one's account). Woody

    2. Hiiiiii Rana Maybe you could contact facebook and ask them what It means. If you were in contact with anybody else on the book I suppose that person would have anything you wrote in their old pages Its an interesting question. I myself gave no personal info except my name. I am surprised at what some people have put in. I myself am a facebook addict. I have found and been found by relatives I knew about vaguely and one young girl I worked with contacted me and it was wonderful to be remembered. I love the games and to spy on my grandchildren. Of course I am not really spying I just like the way it sounds. My grandchildren had to except me as a friend in order to read what they talk about. Some of my adult children's friends have also friended me which also is nice. I know some of them wont let their parents friend them on facebook. I am fortunate that I have a really wonderful relationship with my kids etc. that they are comfortable enough to let me easedrop looooool. I really enjoy facebook Also My granddaughter has changed her name 4 times already in search of the perfect name and my other Granddaughter has joined at least 100 causes so if facebook keeps the info I cant imagine how they would back up everything But I am completely paranoid and I think if I would leave facebook I would change my name after reading your concerns. Ema As we closed our account, a Facebook team message was emailed to us (in essence; not direct quote) that anytime we wished to return we could, and things would be just as they are today.
