Hi Joan, ('Scuse the intrusion) I was checking my options for Firefox browser and under the GENERAL tab I have: under startup: Show my home page" under "home page" there are 3 options: use current page; use bookmark; restore to default. 2. Bev- I'm a little confused here...gmail is what you are using for your email. I'm not clear on what you mean about "subscribing to a new Web site?" Do you just mean that when you click a link in an email it opens the AOL browser or what? On Firefox 3.6 you could click on TOOLS > OPTIONS > ADVANCED > GENERAL and check the box for System Defaults to always check on start up that Firefox is the default browser. 3. Check out this No checkbox to remember passwords It can happen that you will find no checkbox in Thunderbird to remember passwords. To change this, you will need to edit the prefs.js file, located in the Thunderbird profile folder. 1.. Close Thunderbird and open the prefs.js file in Notepad or another editor (make a backup copy of prefs.js first, as a precaution). 2.. Find the following line: user_pref("signon.rememberSignons", false); 3.. Change the value from false to true. 4.. Close the Notepad or editor window and save changes. 5.. On the next startup of Thunderbird you should find the checkbox for remembering the password in the password manager. Instead of editing prefs.js, you can change the same setting via about:config. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lloyd Hite" <lhite31.1@juno.com> To: "Senior-Newbie" <SENIOR-NEWBIE@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, March 11, 2010 3:34 PM Subject: [SR-NEWBIE] Thunderbird E-Mail > Hello List, > I went back to Thunderbird Mail after a year or so using aol and have > forgotten how to keep from having to enter my password every time I send > or get mail. 2. I have the free Zone Alarm on my laptop. Zone Alarm, I found, is nag free for about a month after installing. .
