All you need is a suitable cable to go from the output of the reel-to-reel and the input socket of the PC sound card. Once you have that then the free program Audacity will be able to record whatever you play onto the PC where you can edit / clean up / save as MP3 / Wav files etc ready for copy to MP3 player or create a CD from. Might have to play around with the output volume of the reel-to-reel as too much might overload the sound card input. You'll soon know as it will sound distorted on load passages and the waveform you see in Audacity will be clipped. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ - current version 1.2.6 and works on Windows / Mac / Linux :-) -- Best regards, Barry mailto:[email protected] MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 9.10'Karmic'

We have gone a little way past the stone tablet and chisel days over on this side of the pond so your Asus will be able to connect into any Wi-Fi signal available when you get here. There are many places now that have free Wi-Fi ( pubs, coffee shops etc ) and even hotels where you are staying may well have it too ! Main thing to find out is whether the charger is dual-voltage so that it will work on our higher mains voltage of 230v as opposed to your 110v. It should say on the label what the input range is and if it's clearly 100-240 or similar and possibly says 50/60Hz too then you are good to go. Don't even attempt to plug the charger in over here unless you are 100% certain it's compatible - plugging a 110v device into our 230v mains is spectacular if you like fireworks and flames but not generally recommended <lol> Other than that, happy holidays and don't forget to visit the Lake District up here in the north west of England where I live if you can :-) -- Best regards, Barry mailto:[email protected] MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 9.10'Karmic'

    2. I find that my "restore" does not work as long as my Norton Internet Security is active. What I have to do is restart in Safe Mode (first turning off my cable modem to avoid vulnerability) so that my Norton doesn't run, and then run my restore. 3. There are external video capture cards. If that is what he wants and you seem to think he does, he should be able to find them at any electronic store or website. My grandson uses one and says it works fine. I have heard different opinions from others. I've never used one. I wasn't interested because my 4 year old viao does it ......... so as soon as I get a hold of him I will let you know if you can wait. If you have a newish pc maybe its built in. My daughter just bought a pc that does everything but closets. On my pc all I did was connect the vcr to the pc which does you no good. I believe you might need a certain video card if its not built in. We would appreciate knowing the type of device to search for on the web. TIA Rick Hi, I am not sure about home movies which I suppose are 8mm tapes, but I bought a VHS/DVD recorder for about $200 Cdn. and am tranferring video 8 tapes from an analog video recorder, old home movies that had been transferred to VHS commercially, onto DVDs. It works well and I am satisfied with the results. Dave in cold Montreal

    2. Hi, Bev- I guess you mean when you click to go to the Web site the AOL browser is the one that takes you to the site? That would indicate that the AOL browser is set as your default browser. I think you said you use Firefox as your browser to go to your gmail account and for other Web browsing? If so, and you want it to be your default browser you can set Firefox to be your default. 3. Bev, whenever I've subscribed to something it always asks for my email address. I have two, but I prefer one over the other, so that's the one I type in. So no matter which ISP you're actually using at the time, it will pick up on the email addy you have typed in. 3. Max, you can make your homepage anything you want it to be. My Firefox opens up four pages when I bring it up, iGoogle, Google, Comcast (my ISP) and ABC News. Bring up the pages you want your Firefox to always open to, and choose them under current page. If you wanted to, one of those pages could be your gmail account page.
