I am going to check to see if a beta version of FF is on the laptop. If it is, can it be changed to non-beta? Good luck and thanks for your time. I looked through the list and could not find any reference to Work Offline being true or false. I also want to clarify that work offline bug was from a previous version of firefox and when I installed FF beta-1, the bug came in also. I have had problems with the WorkOffline bug for a couple of months. I got rid of it once, but when my computer crashed and I reloaded fire fox the bug came back. I went to MozillaZine and got the below information, but I cannot make heads or tails of it. "If you use a PPP connection (dialup or DSL) and Firefox always starts in “Offline” mode, switching this preference to true may fix the problem. Offline/online status changes will not be detected, though." How would I go about switching the preference to true? I ask this because when things start "disappearing" like what you are experiencing it could well be insufficient resources. Joan In a message dated 7/23/2010 10:45:28 A.M. 2. Hi Barry Thank you so much. I took out all the usb plugs and I put an old fashioned mouse and keyboard in with the green and purple plugs I checked the plug leading to the outlet with something else and that is working. But the PC Still doesn't work. I don't know what I am looking for with the magnifying glass but I have a few screw drivers. If you can give me some baby baby steps. I will change the power sauce or the diapers or what ever you tell me to do. Thanks so much Be Well Ema Eac> My pc wont turn on no lights no noise nothing. Does anybody know Eac> what I can check besides the plugs. After trying a known good working power cable ( i.e. the one in the monitor, assuming this powers up OK ) then the chances are it's the power supply inside the box that's gone. These can be replaced so it's not new PC time ... well, not yet anyway <lol> Another thing that can prevent powering up is shorted USB ports so check these carefully with a magnifying glass. Any damage inside is suspect and with care the internal bits can be straightened out to clear the short but the socket will not be usable any more. In the same sort of direction, unplug all USB devices anyway as a fault in one of those can do the same thing. If it is just the power unit then this can be replaced by a local tech pretty reasonably or you could even do the job yourself if you are OK working with screwdrivers and opening up the PC case. Not a problem if you aren't sure about it, just mentioning as on the scale of PC fixing it's about as simple as it gets :-) -- Best regards, Barry mailto:[email protected] MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 9.10'Karmic'

    3. Hi Norma ...... if you look at the CD drawer you should see a tiny hole in the space below and close to the button that opens the drawer. If you straighten a paper clip and carefully (gently) push it into the hole you should find that the drawer will open easily. 3. Thanks Bev.......... in frustration yesterday I took the side panel off and the inside,I am ashamed to say, was filthy with dust and fluff that had been elecrostatically attracted .......... so I cleaned it out with a brush and hand held vacuum cleaner. When I reassembled it it worked like a charm.. I should have known this as I religiously clean the filters in my air conditioners on a quarterly basis and my poor old PC had never been cleaned in almost five years. 3. Hi Barry and thanks for your response, In shame I must confess that the problem was just 'poor housekeeping' ........ I disconnected the PC from the power and took a side off .......... well!! ....... the compacted dust and filth inside was amazing so I used a brush followed by a car type vacuum cleaner to remove it all. In so doing I must have cleared up the problem as the light started to flicker on the drawer so I inserted a CD and it worked OK. I should have known better as I have cleaned the air filters in my air conditioners at home on a quarterly basis .... dont know why it did'nt occur to me that the PC is not unrelated to this problem.
