    1. Re: [SR-NEWBIE] Adobe Reader 3.2
    2. Lloyd- Did you try opening Adobe Reader on your computer (like you would open any other file--double click the icon on your desktop or find the reader in your program list) and then open the file you downloaded or are you are trying to open the file on the Web site where you found it? In other words did you try to download the file or open it? Joan In a message dated 8/27/2010 2:45:31 P.M. Can someone tell me how to get Firefox and IE to reconize Adobe Reader as the default PDF Reader? Lloyd

Sounds like a setting in the scanner software isn't quite as it should be but there are so many scanners we'd need to know which make and model number you have and also the scanning program used. As for getting the scans in individual folders moved it's a question of using Windows Explorer to open up those folder then cut / paste to where you want them to go. Often this sort of job works better with two windows open side by side - do you know how to do this ? -- Best regards, Barry mailto:[email protected] MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 10.04 'Lucid' 64bit

Now that I have gone back to scanning, my computer is acting up. Each photo I scan is automatically put in it own individual folder and I have not figured out how to get them out of their individual folders in order to organize them. I surely do need help. Instead look at the keyboard and usually the [F2] button has a wireless symbol on it - if so then press that to turn the wireless on/off ( may need to hold down the [Fn] key for it to work ). There may be some sort of indicator or sometimes you just get a message on-screen to say that the wireless bit has been turned on or off. -- Best regards, Barry mailto:[email protected] MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 10.04 'Lucid' 64bit

OK, looks like the Windows Firewall has got itself in a mess and that's the reason you are having all this trouble. Turning it off only goes so far as there are sections of it that you can't actually turn off no matter what you do !! Two things to try are a reset of the Windows Firewall and reset of the browser ( presumably Internet Explorer ). To reset the Windows Firewall: Go to [ Start / Run ] and type in firewall.cpl and hit [Enter] then click on the 'advanced' tab in the window that appears. In there you'll see the 'Restore Defaults' button so click on that. You'll get a warning message about programs not working but they aren't working anyway so ignore and click 'Yes'. To reset Internet Explorer: Go to [ Start / Control Panel / Internet Options / Advanced ] and in there you'll see the 'Reset' button to click on. It will change your home page to the system default so it will be a good idea to bookmark the home page to restore it later. -- Best regards, Barry mailto:[email protected] MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 10.04 'Lucid' 64bit

    1. [SR-NEWBIE] Questions about the laptop
    2. RickandRana
    3. Barry, we have made some progress; some of the progress has happened without known cause: 1. Attempts to disable the network cable resulted in these findings on page entitled Network Connections: Local Area Connection Network Cable unplugged Broadcam 440x 10/100 Integrated Wireless Network Connection connected 1394 connected Broadband Disconnected WAN miniport PPPOE Internet Gateway: Internet Connector Connected, Dell True Mobile 1300 WLAN-Mini PC After that, we attempted to connect the internet and the error message was: Check Firewall settings for HTTP Port 80; HHRS Port 443 FTP Port 21 You might need to contact your ISP We turned off Windows Firewall The next attempt to access the Internet was a success!!!! But----we cannot change pages without returning to home page. To illustrate: we use both Comcast and Yahoo as our news pages. We were taken to comcast home page but could not read an article that required moving to another page. That error message was _cannot connect to various ports_ as listed above. The wire that has a plug to be plugged into regular wall outlet is used when we charge the battery. We plugged in that wire to the back of the laptop, planning to charge the battery. To our utter consternation, the laptop screen jumped, visibly, and went straight to google that we use for home page. We almost fainted. But---still, we cannot move from one page to another without returning to home page. Thank you for all your time and advice and guidance. Shall we say we begin to feel this is a lost cause? Rick

All I had to do was turn it back on.> Bettye>Bettye, you will need to search a long time before finding ones as ignorantof computers and their "parts" as we. Were it not for this list and theseamazingly knowledgeable folks who are willing to share that knowledge, wewould still be using typewriters.I have no idea how to determine whether our router is wireless nor how toturn it on/off. Our son-in-law set up the computer and said enjoy! A friendgave us his used laptop and said now go surf the web rather than watch TV!!Thank you for writing and taking your time to offer suggestions for help.Rana>>>>> -----Original Message-----> From: RickandRana <[email protected]>> To: Barry <[email protected]>; [email protected]> Sent: Tue, Aug 10, 2010 9:20 am> Subject: Re: [SR-NEWBIE] Questions about laptops>>> -------------------------------> To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to> [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the> quotes in the subject and the body of the message>*********Visit the threaded archives of this list: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/SENIOR-NEWBIE*********-------------------------------To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message *********Visit the threaded archives of this list: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/SENIOR-NEWBIE*********-------------------------------To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
