    1. [SR-NEWBIE] Forwarded message: Rich Text, and Windows 7 Backup and Storing Photos
    2. Rick attempted to send this to the list and it got blocked at RootsWeb and rejected for the reason specified below. I can't answer Rick's question about turning off rich text editors in gmail -- can someone respond to the issues below? Thanks for helping! Joan, admin [email protected] ----------------------------------------------- I apologize. I do not know how to turn off the rich text editors. Will you kindly explain? Thank you. Rick Powell On Wed, Oct 27, 2010 at 9:04 AM, <[email protected]> wrote: The message's file extension was not explicitly allowed if you are using a rich text editor(colors, different fonts ect...) you must turn it off ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: RickandRana <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Date: Wed, 27 Oct 2010 08:54:27 -0400 Subject: Windows 7 Backup and storing photos 1. Our new computer with OS Windows 7, does not backup MyFiles (WP12) and My New Folder. Why not? How can we get these backed up on Drive K of external hard drive? 2. Using Windows XPpro, I had one photo-editing program, PhotoImpact, and all photos were saved to that software, edited there and emailed from that software. In Windows7, there is a muddled mess that we cannot figure out: 1. Windows Live and 2. Kodak Easy Share that we installed for use with digital camera 3. PhotoImpact, that we installed from old computer 4. Paint. All our photos are stored among these various parts of Windows7; all of these various programs act differently from the other, for example, from Kodak Easy Share, I cannot email a photo. We read that with Paint one can edit photos by opening photo in Paint and then proceeding with editing. Paint will not open our photos; neither the albums from Easy Share nor those from PhotoImpact. Will someone offer advice? A page to study? What we would like is to have again all our photos under one roof, so to speak----is that possible with Windows7? Just when we thought we were getting comfortable with the old computer, it went the way of old computers----stopped with a loud ticking and would not re-start. We are studying a bit each day the various tutorials we have found that explain both Windows 7 and Office 7. Any and all help sincerely appreciated. Rick Powell

    2. Ron, If you uninstalled it from control panel then I would delete the folder if you are sure there is nothing you need in there. And also see what someone else says so I dont give you the wrong info. Ema Woody, Thanks for the link I downloaded it. I should maybe follow your advice but I am a download junky. I want to take 10 pounds off without dieting looooool thanks Ema Barry, I was pretty good with Elements 4 but had to go up and I know its probably does 100 things more then I need but I am sick of learning new things that are obsolete by the time I get them. I would rather read a book. I am hoping that ifran will be easier to use like you said. Thankds Ema

    3. I downloaded a programme for 30 days trial, it did not do what I wanted so I deleted it from my control panel. I am still left with a folder on my desktop holding approx 1.5 GB of the same programme, how do I get rid of this? Ron C. West Oz.

Hello Woody, Thursday, October 21, 2010, 5:47:05 PM, you wrote: Wac> I recommend you not add Irfanview with all of the other graphics Wac> programs you have on your computer, as it would slow it down. The only time that adding a program slows down a PC is when run at the same time as other programs ( and that can often be relieved by boosting memory if you can ), just installing another graphics program won't have any effect - unless the Hard Drive is desperately short of space but that's a different matter. Agreed that Photoshop Elements 8 would be far better than IrfanView but some functions are easier to work with in different programs so it may be that the clone in Photoshop isn't as intuitive ? -- Best regards, Barry mailto:[email protected] MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 10.04 'Lucid' 64bit

    2. Ema and Ron, Here is the link to Irfanview: http://www.irfanview.com/ However, Ema, you already have Photoshop Elements V8, and that is better than Irfanview. I recommend you not add Irfanview with all of the other graphics programs you have on your computer, as it would slow it down. Woody ====================== [email protected] writes: Woody What an amazing picture. It is perfect. Could you give me please the exact link to get the Irfanview with the clone. Ron. I have Photo elements 8 but because I am a hoarder I also have Paint.net and Gimp which are free paint programs that also have cloning if you want to do anything else. Ema I've heard good comments about Irfanview. Irfanview has recently added cloning to its capabilities, so that you can clone part of one picture into another picture. EXAMPLE: http://www.minco-ok.com/history/woolly.jpg (I did the above with Paint Shop Pro 8 or 10, but Irfanview has the capability.) Also, with Irfanview you should be able to paste a picture on top of another picture. One has to resize one picture in a process of trial and error to get the scale right. Woody ================ [email protected] writes: I have a photo editing programme called "Picture It Photo 2002" which no longer works. I am looking for something similar which is easy to work, the main thing I am wanting to do is to be able to use my own photos and take parts of one photo and fit it into another photo. Can any one help with what I am wanting to do?, Ron.C. West Oz.

Is there anyway to override the LH> password and get into the computer? Sorry to hear of your loss, you don't expect to outlive your children :-( As for the password - we'd need to know at what stage this appears. If it's a BIOS password ( i.e. before Windows even starts ) then it's a different matter to a normal login password screen in Windows. If it's not a BIOS password there's always the option of using an Ubuntu Live CD to access the drive contents as this ignores passwords on Windows and will only fail if the HD has been encrypted - if that's happened then you cannot remove the password nor discover it by running 3rd party programs anyway and the data is lost without the correct password. Encrypted drives are about as secure as you can get and that's perhaps as it should be !! Hopefully it will just be a 'standard' passworded account and that's not going to stop access to the files, either using Ubuntu as above or trying to log into Safe Mode and the Administrator account where any user's password can be reset - you get a warning that encrypted data will be lost as well as the user's saved passwords file. On a side note: It's a reminder that with many of us now putting our financial affairs on computers the question of passwords is something that those left behind will need to face some day. There are ways of making passwords available after you are gone, even if it's a sealed envelope lodged with the bank - but changes are a pain to managed !! PS - rather than destroy the HD why not take it apart and mount the platters inside in a frame. It would be a high tech memorial ?? -- Best regards, Barry mailto:[email protected] MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 10.04 'Lucid' 64bit

He said one of the you tube sites did it for him. I have also heard that if you remove the battery (the little one inside of desktop pc's) it will wipe out passwords. 3. Hi Joan, Thanks so much for your reply. Yes, I did that but it wouldn't bring up my email box. I just went to my email box then and typed in the URL which then worked. I trhink I have messed up my browser or something as I haven't had the problem before. Earlier I downloaded Word 10 and I think I may have done something with Outlook Express on that programme. I have now uninstalled it but still not working. Also, I no longer have the list of recent web pages I have used. I do appreciate your reply.
