This may well be your problem. Are you able to upgrade the system to at least double the RAM? XP runs on less RAM than VISTA which I'm using but I have 3 GIGs of RAM for VISTA and if I remember correctly I used to run XP on 1 GIG RAM. 256 is barely adequate (if that) these days. Right click on My Computer, and choose properties from the drop down menu The screen that comes up will tell you how much RAM you have ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> > > Is this the same as "total physical memory"? How much RAM do you have? (Not that memory issues are ALWAYS related to how much RAM you have--they can be related to how much memory is allocated for various functions--but it's a good placed to start with knowing how much RAM your computer has. I do not know what is wrong. I think it is probably some dumb thing I have done or something I have put on the computer which I should not have. I have a Dell Dimension 2400, Win XP, and have Comodo, Avira, Spybot S&D, and Spyware Blaster. All of them come up clean. Any help/ideas appreciated.

Thanks for replying Barry, We tried reset but it still shows java script not enabled. Guess she will have to use her laptop whenever she wants to visit that one site. My sister cannot open a web page because it tells her she need to enable java script. She is running Vista. Internet Explorer 8.0. I have goggled and followed all the instructions and it still won't work. We have compared all the settings with her laptop which also has Vista and with mine which is XP. All settings are the same. She can access the page in question with the laptop and I can with mine. I unistalled Java and reinstalled it. No help. We ran a test on "Computer Hope" site. When the results come up,under "yours" it shows missing on her desktop computer but lists the latest version on both her laptop and mine. Any help is appreciated. Mary

Dear Fellow Members, I am having trouble since installing Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. It will not allow me to access my bank even though I have put my Bank site on my Allow List. Plus when I go into Genes Reunited & wish to go into my Family Tree, it will download the page but will not display my Tree. Even though I can access anything else on this site, it will not allow me to add to my tree. I have allowed pop-ups & I use Windows XP with Internet Explorer. Thanks Barry ......... I am so glad you told me that as it has had me mystified for a long time. I cant remember being told what it was about when I installed the F Drive .... I suppose some info was provided but the interest in setting up an external drive over rode all else ........ so not only *read* the instructions but *remember* them as well. Thanks again ........ I shall ignore the icon. I have an icon in my desk tray which I cant understand. When I hover over it it says 'Safely remove Hardware' and when I left click on it I get a box that says 'Safely remove Mass Storage Device - Drive (F:)' I do have an external F drive ......... why would I have this icon? Another mystery Joe

Whenever a removable drive is plugged into Windows ( or any other OS for that matter ) it's important to be sure that the computer has finished writing to the drive before it's unplugged. The reason for that 'Safely Remove' icon is for the system to check before you unplug that it really is safe to remove. If you never unplug the F: drive then just ignore the icon, but if you do have to unplug then use this icon to shut down the F: drive before it's unplugged. BTW - you'll hear people say they never bother with all that fuss and just unplug anyway ... 99 times out of 100 they'll get away with it, but that 1 time they don't it can scramble the data on their external drive so next time it's plugged in they'll find that the contents cannot be read any more. For the sake of an extra mouse click or two it's not worth the risk IMHO <lol> -- Best regards, Barry mailto:[email protected] MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 10.04 'Lucid' 64bit
Hello List, I have downloaded AQ 12.1 90 day Free Trial twice and each time I start to install it, a message comes up stating that the file is corrupted and cannot be installed. I downloaded the second time from a different site than the first. Does anyone know of a good site to download from? Hi, I love Firefox but suddenly have been having problems with it. First of all, my tool bar has dropped some of my web sites from the tool bar. And suddenly, when I find a neat web page I can not click on file, then 'send link' to send the page to my gmail account. Any one else having that new problem? -- Bev Carlson of Minnesota
Bev, thanks, but no, that isn't what I was asking. I actually have the mail going to folders, I wanted to undo a couple of those, and it is going to take awhile to find the rule and get rid of it. I have a gmail account, but never got comfortable using it. It's funny how you get attached to the one you started with (kind of like spouses, haha!) Nancy
