I keep hearing the tone when a new e-mail drops into my mailbox, but there is no new e-mail. I am using Outlook Express. I have several blocked e-mail addresses (Spam) that go directly into the Deleted Items. Both my Inbox and Deleted Items show the number of unread e-mails, some times these numbers change some times they don't. On several mailing lists every so often I will read an answer to a question that I never saw come through on the list. So...where is this e-mail going? I've been finding Firefox more and more flaky as updates appear pending the arrival of version 4, which is now up to Beta 10 and that's not a good sign - beta versions in double numbers usually means serious errors in the code that are proving difficult to fix !! Such bugs are meant to be found / sorted at the Alpha or pre-Alpha stage, Beta's are supposed to be final polishing before release. Firefox 5 anyone ??? That's usually what happens when a version upgrade goes badly wrong, they skip that number and start again :-) Personally I've switched to Opera 11, initially until Firefox get their act together but actually I like the latest Opera and may well stick will it now :-) If you want to give Firefox another chance, first of all try removing all add-ons and see if it's more stable. If so, then add back what you want one at a time. If Firefox is still troublesome then remove it and re-install the latest version from scratch. -- Best regards, Barry mailto:[email protected] MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 10.04 'Lucid' 64bit

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop , running Windows 7 Home Premium . All was set with picture covering the full screen ; then my cat walked on the upper left top keys and now the screen doesn't cover the entire area . It is as if he minimized it about half size. I may have written about this in the past, and if I did get an answer, maybe I didn't understand it; so I am sharing this with others who may experience it. I never had trouble with www.amazon.com, and did not change any settings, but suddenly, I would get a box that pops up saying: Security Warning The current Web page is trying to open a site in your Trusted sites list. Do you want to allow this? Current site: http://www.amazon.com Trusted site: res://ieframe.dll ----------------- AND, the darned thing would popup on each page of amazon as I worked my through the pages to get to the thing I wanted to buy, or the book I wanted to read about, over and over and over again. It was maddening, and I avoided the site as much as I could, but it was amazing how often I seemed to need to go there. So here is the fix, which I found by googling after tearing my hair out today, for others who may be experiencing this: "It is also possible to eliminate the popup by changing the setting below: Open Control Panel-Internet Options-Security tab-Trusted Sites-Custom Level button. Scroll down and "enable" or "disable" the setting below. (Disable is safer.) (NOTE: MINE WAS SET TO PROMPT) "Web sites in less privileged Web content zones can navigate into this zone" Click on OK, "apply", then OK, etc. Hope this helps. Grif "
Our son has offered us a new-to us, all in one printer termed e-machine. This machine will be wireless, have a network and have its own email address, if we have understood correctly what we have read. Our concerns are: 1. if we network, wireless, will our personal and research papers be more available to hackers? At present, Rick keeps all vip records on his computer and rarely surfs the web from that computer; I do research on my computer and visit many sites each day; 2. if this machine has its own email address, will we be able to just print from a program, Word for example? Must we email a Word doc in order for it to print? 3. may we scan with this machine without sending the item to an email address? We are very confused as can readily be determined by reading of this post. Any and all help gratefully received. Rana

The computer is back to its normal behavior. Again, we are grateful for your time and help. Don't we wish we had such knowledge, but thankfully, you are willing to help! Hello RickandRana, Monday, January 3, 2011, 2:57:33 AM, you wrote: R> Please advise in simple terms if possible. Can we remedy this R> matter ourselves? First thing to try is a System Restore to before you installed that HP printer. Click on [ Start ] and type System Restore into the search box and you'll get the icon for opening it where you can select a restore point and apply it. Hopefully this will restore full working but get back if it doesn't of course. BTW - IE7 is pretty flaky so when you get the boot up resolved you'll be well advised getting IE8 or even not using IE at all !! -- Best regards, Barry mailto:[email protected] MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 10.04 'Lucid' 64bit
One of our computers is about two-three years old running Vista, 32 bit. While trying to install a HP printer, I apparently did something wrong and the computer would not let me move from the site, close the page or even shut down the computer. After twelve minutes, I shut off the computer manually. Since then the computer comes on with choices for starting: safe mode, another choice I have forgotten, and normal start, so three choices. On normal start we can log on but the computer will not do anything after that. No program will open; IE7 will open but not display web page. The computer automatically did a disk check/repair but still the computer refuses to: 1. start normally sans the fanfare and choices; 2. operate any program. Please advise in simple terms if possible. Can we remedy this matter ourselves? TIA Rana
What an interesting subject, I have been having strife with my drivers for some time now, so I splashed out and purchased UPdatemyDrivers all went like clockwork, it found all to outdated drivers, I required. So far so good until I came to install them. Not one worked. I wonder if this is due to having an eleven year old Pc? Such is life Well If I'm lucky Santa may bring me a new one for Christmas? Hello List. I have been using Driver Genius to keep my computer drivers updated and the problem I have is, if I do not use it every day, then when I go to use it, it will not open. I have to uninstall it, then reinstall to use it. If I open it every day I have no problems. Any ideas on what the problem is? I have contacted the developers of the program, but they keep blaming my Firewall and or Anti Virus which is not the cause.
