I am having lots of problems with my computer--slow, AV and firewall programs not working properly, etc. I ran CCleaner and dumped the list it brought up. The computer is still working very poorly. Is it possible to reverse CCleaner? I have tried to uninstall Avira AV in order to reinstall it, but I can't find any components of it. Since it was one of the startup programs, I keep getting a message about it every time I turn on the computer. It keeps telling me it is "unable to find file ccplg.xml". And I can't redownload an AV program or a firewall. I have restored the system, too, but no help. Thanks for any advice. </HTML>
Everything was working fine, but something has changed. I can not get pictures in my e mail's. I beleive a setting was changed but I do not know where to go. Barry, thank you! We have Office '07 but are having great difficulty (as you might have guessed) in learning how to use it. It differs radically from Office '03. Setting up templates to accomodate the type research we do is very hard for both of us. The "built-in" processor of Office '03 was very easy to use. We will download and experiment with your recommendation. As always, we appreciate your time and your help. You may have Ms Works installed from the factory as this is often bundled with Windows - it's not actually part of Windows so if the supplier chose not to have this bundled then you are out of luck in that respect. If you don't have MS Works or not happy with it then there's the free alternative Open Office that you can download and install. Otherwise it would mean purchasing the latest MicroSoft Office and installing that. -- Best regards, Barry mailto:[email protected] MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 10.04 'Lucid' 64bit
Is there a word processor built into Windows7, 64 bit? What is the name? I cannot remember the name of the program, but XPpro SP3 did have a word processor. TIA Rana
You will have to do this for yourself. Why? Because you wrote from your OLD address which means I have no way of knowing if the NEW address is correct and valid. Here's how to do it: You can still SEND mail from the old address so send a NEW email from the OLD address to: [email protected] with the word UNSUBSCRIBE in the subject and message body. Next send another NEW email from your NEW address to the same address above with the word SUBSCRIBE in the subject and message body. Then respond to the confirmation email you will receive at the new address to complete the new subscription. Joan, admin [email protected] In a message dated 2/28/2011 1:51:34 P.M. Thanks Barry, I can see I did not make myself clear, what I wanted to know was my friends have different brand set up, ( Skype ) and they tell me they can not receive me from my set up. Ron. Logitech web cam software includes their own video calling program and this won't talk to Skype so the way around that is to sign up for Skype too - it's free and even if you've used the Logitech software it will not interfere with Skype. There are a few of these video-chat type of programs and they don't tend to interact with each other ! -- Best regards, Barry mailto:[email protected] MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 10.04 'Lucid' 64bit

I have set up a Logitech 1.3MP Webcam C500 camera on my computer, can I communicate with any other brand of camera from my above set up? Ron C, West Oz.

Such an annoyance to have that program pop up all day long, every day. Many thanks. Can this be done as you have described at this late date? I have put a great deal of into into our FTM program and have continued to seek and find (with great difficulty) and update our research. I am not sure I feel capable of erasing all and starting over using yur method. What do you think? Do we go to the store and purchase a "USB CADDY"? Many thanks. Don't know what you used to transfer but this is definitely not usual, folders are generally copied intact and in their original order. The best way to do this sort of thing IMHO is to use a USB caddy to fit the old Hard Drive in and plug into the new computer then use Windows Explorer to copy files from the external drive to the PC. This is even easier if two Windows Explorer windows are opened as it's just a case of drag-and-drop from one to the other :-) -- Best regards, Barry mailto:[email protected] MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 10.04 'Lucid' 64bit
When we transferred our records from Maxtor to Windows7, 64 bit, the end result is horrendous. Our neatly labeled, alphabetically organized folders are now a mass of files randomly stored: No folders, nothing in alphabetical order. There are 1534 files scattered around in never before seen fashion. Someone told us the problem lies in the manner in which we transferred the files and that it can be corrected. (We thought it was characteristic of Windows7 until we asked someone about it). Is it possible for us to transfer the files from Maxtor to Windows7, 64 bit and have them in same order as when using XPpro, SP3? Can we do this ourselves? As regular readers of this column know, we are very computer ill-literate! Many thanks. Rick Powell
Since installing Kodak Easy Care on this new Windows7, 64 bit computer, Kodak Easy Care jumps up onto the screen anytime we open any program. We have not changed any settings from the previous computer running Vista. How do we stop this annoyance? TIA Rick Powell

So...where is NW> this e-mail going? This isn't too unusual with mailing lists and the missing message may have fallen foul of a badly set up anti-spam program on a server that part of the message goes through or isn't able to forward on for one reason or another. What isn't generally understood about e-mail is that your messages are not sent in one chunk - they are split into many smaller packets and each one may go via a different route between the sending and receiving server. It only takes for one of those packets to not arrive for the whole message to fail to send and since mail servers cannot hold onto partly received messages for long they end up being deleted. Upshot is that the message does not get through and since it's incomplete the receiving server cannot re-assemble to find out where it came from and send a bounce message back to the sender or alert the recipient. It it was able to re-assemble then the message would be there and ready to pick up :-) That's why you'll see that in all e-mail providers terms of service that it isn't a guaranteed service, but agreed that this isn't made *too* clear by any of them !! It also doesn't help that in terms of internet traffic e-mail packets are the lowest priority of all and in times of congestion or routing outages then they are the first things to be dropped to try and get the system back in action. When you consider exactly how 'the internet' works it's amazing that it works as well as it does really <lol> -- Best regards, Barry mailto:[email protected] MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 10.04 'Lucid' 64bit
Thanks Barry, I surely hate to unblock those addresses. Sometimes I get more than 100 e-mails from addresses and subject lines that I am sure are porno, and my Netfriend SriLanka is pretty prolific too. I will bite the bullet and unblock them for part of today only. I was aware that messages are delivered in pieces, but I forgot that they had to all be reassembled before delivery. You are so right, the internet is amazing!
