David- I am using Windows 98. Would you please send instructions on how to change the jpeg. I have gone as far as jpeg. which says open with Explorer............now what to do? Ruth in NJ
Thank you, John, I did right click to open - just doesn't work.
My computer has an inbuilt graphics card on the mother board. This is not working properly because of driver problems. I want to install a new graphics card. I would be grateful if someone would give me a breif description of the steps I need to follow. Regards Peter Goggin
For XP: Go to Control Panel--- Folder Options--- File Types. Assuming your pictures are jpegs, go to the 3 entries for 'jpeg image' in the list and hit the 'Change' button in the 'Open with' section, and change each to 'Windows Picture and Fax Viewer'. This will work with tiff files, or any other file type you want to open with a specific program. Generally an easy fix. Older versions of Windows will have some differences, based on how much older than XP they are. Supply info on your operating system if you are still having problems. forgot to mention that if I right click on the icon, I can then send it to myself and then view the attachment. Ruth in NJ
When I click on a folder in which I have placed pictures, I cannot open any of them...........never had this problem before. Can anyone suggest a solution, please? TIA Ruth in NJ
I have tried all possible combinations available. So far no success. It appears tha the correct driver is missing, and because the recovery boot disk and cdrom do not work i am unable to reset the system. I have a NEC Powermate computer. For some reason oit appears to have lost ist video driver and defaults to VGA (600 x 800 pixels x 16 colours) I have tried the recovery CD provides with the computer but it now refuses to rcognise the hardware and won't let me reinstall the operating system. Has anyone any idea how I can again get the resolution back. Regards Peter Goggin
Hi Ruth, I started recording genealogy on a Brother Word Processor. I don't believe you can buy ribbons for it any more. That is why I threw it out last year. It served its purpose, and I enjoyed using it; however, the computer is a step up and is more usable. I haven't seen a new one in years, but it just so happens I sold one in a garage sale today for $5.00. It worked. I have another one I'm trying to give away free. I have no idea if it works. I gave it to my son when he graduated from high school in1989. It's funny you should ask about these old word processors today. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Yes, Ruth, I know the machines about which you are talking. I had two of them and finally sold them at a garage sale last summer cause I hadn't used them in such a long time. Wish I still had them and could ship one to you!!! Noelie in LA
Yeah, Ruth, I know what you're talking about.... they did look somewhat like a typewriter, and functioned just as you describe.... We had one for a while... I don't remember using it...and I don't know where it is... you can still get typewriters, so I would think those word processors would still be available, too... Maybe get in touch with HP, and ask them.... Good Luck! Hi, I have two of these types of word processors. One, I think is a Brother, the other is a SMC. I have only seen them lately at places like Goodwill, and maybe ebay if you are looking for one. I used them in them from 1987 to 1991 to do my college work because computers at that time were beyond my budget. I have gotten several responses. Didn't think I would get any! Is one of your word processors for sale? Asking price? Is it in good condition? Would appreciate the information. Thanks. Thank you everybody for the advice re getting email addresses into address book. Simple as anything when you know how Garth
Hi, I'm wondering if someone can explain to me, in VERY simple English, how to keep photos resized for printing please. I've been in my program {Corel Photo House}, resized the photos and then printed them, only to have them finish as thumbnail size, [the photo prints little bigger than a stamp]. I hope I've explained my problem properly and if so would appreciate help as I have a few that are turning out like this, a problem I don't usually have. Thank you, Jenny.
