    1. Re: [SR-NEWBIE] changing text from Paint to Notepad
    2. David Creelman
    3. Hi Peggy If you saved in Paint you no longer have text. The text is now part of of a picture file- jpeg, bmp or whatever you saved it as. I believe good OCR programs can open these file types and(with the usual OCR errors) capture the text. I'm not sure this is worth the expense, and OCR can be tricky. Do you have other options, like finding another text copy, or copying from the files you have with good old fashioned typing? I'm not sure what you mean in the second question. Setting colours in a program mentioned here, or Windows? In Windows- press Start---Control Panel---Display, choose the Settings tab. I think that is right for Me. Keep supplying more info if this isn't helping! 3. Yahoo mail has a spam filter, I turned it off because I pop the mail into my mail program and K9 filters spam to my own mail program. But for those reading yahoo at the website turn on the spam filter and the spam should go to that folder. Elaine

    3. Just in case.....go to Message, click on Block Sender. This has worked for me. Often, however, I have to also click on Unsubscribe. I get gobs of spam also, and I used to read them then delete.....but not now! The Block Sender and Unsubscribe seem to work fine. 3. Others might have a different answer, but when I got sick of the SPAM, I slightly changed my email address and sent it to the folks I wanted to have it. It worked like a charm. I also am very careful now about putting my email address in any website. It's been 2-3 years, and the spam has not caught up to me yet. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. 3. Harold -- I think that in yahoo when you delete messages that have been put in your bulk file, they are permanently gone and are not in your trash! Also if you leave them in your bulk folder, Yahoo deletes them automatically in 30 days, of course if you get 250 a day you would not want to leave them there that long. I use Yahoo for this list address and some days I may get 15 in my Bulk Mail Box, Don't understand why you would get so many -- you could change your address in Yahoo and see if that helps. 1. Scan Disk
    2. I know where it is on Win ME, but I know you can't turn off everything in your start menu or your computer just won't start up again. What can't you turn off. I have had a death in my family and have not gotten back to this until now.\ can nearly bet you are running W98, probably an updated version. I'm at the tired end of the day ... & was when the 1st of your messages filtered through. I think you need to do the following ..... & I'll need help from W98 people, because I've got the new beaut p.c. with XP ... bells 'n whistles included !.... unfortunately the upgrade to the new p.c. didn't give my human brain any extra memory :) 1. Go to start then "run" 2. type in "msconfig" 3. Here's where I need help from W98 people ........ There's a general tab ? I think it's the 1st tab that opens after typing msconfig 4. You will see something like "disable startup items" or you may see "start up items" .... that's Nortons, Spybot etc. etc.etc. 5. The p.c. will want to shut down/ restart.... do it. 6. Run scan disk ... takes NO time this way ... do a defrag on the same session, also takes heaps less time, but not as spectacular as as "scan disk". 7. After all is done reverse the procedure ... esp. if going on the net ... msconfig ... the tab ... recheck what you switched off. Amongst them your virus scanner. 8. The p.c will want to restart .... again do it. W98 people .... Answers 3. & 4. is where alzheimers has taken over & where Gigi & I need a hand in what Tab is it ? And what things need to be ticked & unticked . HELP. Cheers all Carolyn

    3. You can go into Safe Mode by clicking on F8 when you turn on your computer. Safe mode keeps all that stuff from running in the background while you're doing maintenance. Run Clean Sweep/Disk Cleanup, Scan Disk and then Defrag. When Defrag is done turn off the computer and turn it back on. 3. In Win 98 Internet Explorer(written ie explore or something similar) is the correct program to open jpegs. If IE is working ok, I can't imagine what the problem is. Perhaps try to open pictures from IE itself, using the File---Open dialogue. If that works, then IE is basically ok. But to make sure, why not try Control Panel---Add or Remove Programs. Choose Microsoft Internet Explorer. You will get an option to repair. Choose this. That may fix the problem if IE has got a bit confused.
