Floreda, Go to your inbox >View >text size > pick larger.... or whatever suits you.... I picked larger, and that works quite well for me.... Good luck.... NancyT I have a big problem. All my icons (plus the witing) are all in very small fonts. The 'to' and 'subject' lines of my email are in very small fonts. When I open CNN that, too, is in small font. I have a notebook in which I keep instructions I have received from this mailing list but I cannot locate my 'font size' instructions. (I can still adjust the size of the font in the body of the email). The listing in my 'inbox and sent' are in small font. Can someone please tell me how to adjust the size of those items? To the critics:- I actually wrote about my CD drive as I was trying to get some much needed help, not unwarranted criticism. I didn't mention a stereo system as I don't use my CD drive for playing music, I have a very good stereo with which to do this. I find the drive essential so that I can look up Family History data from the CDs that I buy, as I live in a tiny rural town. To the lovely people who have tried to help with useful suggestions:- Thank you so very much, you have been extremely helpful as I don't know much about computers. I just didn't want to believe that nothing could be done. Cheers, Jenny.
Yes, that is a "blow", Jenny. As your lap top is still working you may want to look at an external drive. Depending on where you live in Australia, have a look at Harris Technology, ComputersOnLine or one of the other computer suppliers near you. HT have an Iomega external drive for AUD141: http://www.ht.com.au/scripts/xworks.exe?CAT:CD2 While ComputersOnLine have it for AUD127.89 http://www.computersonline.com.au/products/product_details.php?prod_id=7608 That is certainly better than paying for a new computer. Just make sure any you contemplate purchasing are able to be connected to your laptop (if it is an "older" model). Lance P. S. Check out Legacy Family Tree today! Maxine, you would have been looking at the Adobe ACROBAT program, rather than the Adobe Acrobat READER which has always been free. Adobe ACROBAT is the program used to create ".PDF" files which can be read in Adobe Acrobat READER. The majority of computer users don't have Adobe Acrobat installed, but most have (or should have) the reader. Adobe have a page with all versions of Adobe Acrobat Reader available for download from v.3 through v.7. Helen, you have to be the "judge" of what you need running at "Start-up". The best way to examine what is there and running is to use the System Configuration Utility in Windows. You can open this utility by clicking START|RUN and then typing msconfig in the little window to the right of "Open:". Then click OK. When the utility opens, click the STARTUP tab. You will now see displayed all the programs which run at Start-up. Browse through this list and see what you need or don't need. If you feel you don't need a particular program running at Start-up, just remove the "tick". To see just which application a particular item belongs to, just expand the column headed COMMAND. When you are finished, click OK. Just remember, this is not deleting a program from your computer. All you are doing is removing it from running at start-up. One of the reasons so many programs get to run at start-up is that they configure themselves to do that by default when you install them. So to prevent this happening in the future always look for the option, when installing a program, that allows you to block this happening (if you don't want it to happen, that is). Any new program likes "to think" it is the "most important" thing you have installed and therefore it will take over your computer if given half a chance :-)! Lance P. S. I run Windows 98 with an Epson sylus color 600 printer. which is about 9 years old. It has recently refused to print and all the lights on the printer blink continually when the machine is running.. My guilde book tells me that an internal error may have occurred. Attempts to reinstall the Epson color program with the disk that came with the machine has not been successful telling me that certain files are missing. I have a three- fold question 1.- where do I go to get the missing files for a machine that old 2.- What would cause an internal error and 3.- Why can't I get the machine to reset using the original disk for reinstallation.. Assuming that this machine may have bitten the dust. what would be the commendations for purchasing a new machine.--- the kind, model and some things to watch for.. One thing I really want to be able to do and that is to refill the cartridges. I know some will think of me as a "tight wad" but I find that I would rather feed my face than to buy ink cartridges. Most of my printing involves photos and text copies of client's papers. Any help or recommendations will be very much appreciated. - Grandma Fern cartridges

Check out an external CDRW, be sure to look at one that records and plays. I use one with my laptop, my laptop has a standard CD drive, a floppy attachment (plugs in) and a MemStick (insert) option. I use a USB connected external CDRW and it works fine with the laptop. Truly a CD drive isn't essential to using a computer unless you want to install a program from CD or listen to music (I personally never saw much sense in using a computer as a stereo system). Elaine, I agree with you 100%!!!! Apparently, however, the makers of computers.... CD recording/playing...ETC....do not.... at least, there is far more instruction in the manuals (mine at least), for recording music.... you are kinda on your own for recording text... photos....there's a very short paragraph on that in my manual! Thanks! PAX NancyT (I personally never saw much sense in using a computer as a stereo system). Elaine
You could, perhaps, buy and external CD drive. They are not as convenient, but it's cheaper than a new computer. -- Internal Virus Database is out-of-date. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Version: 7.0.308 / Virus Database: 266.10.2 - Release Date: 4/21/2005
Bette, this message occurs when there was a problem with the installation, or sometimes when the operating system is changed and the preview files are not correct for the new system. Try the following solution: Uninstall your current version of PAF Companion using Add/Remove Programs, found in the Control Panel. Install the program again using the CD ROM with all unnecessary programs shut down. Open PAF Companion, and perform a preview. (Try two to test it.) Download Managers Bob, are "add-ins". They don't come with your OS. Firefox has a download manager extension which can be installed and used. IE doesn't have one. If you don't use Firefox and you haven't purposefully installed a download manager program, then you haven't got one. While they are good most of the time, they can cause havoc with some downloads, particularly sensitive ones like firewalls. I had a notice pop-up this morning that Zone Alarm had another update, too. I downloaded it through Firefox with no bother. Lance On 4/28/05, bobzmail@juno.com <bobzmail@juno.com> wrote: > > I would turn off download manager if I could find it.
