    3. Carolyn, My PC is maybe year and a half or less... There was only one temp file.... it was a "vg6....something" Haven't done a scan disc, defrag or a clean-up or a virus scan.... in a while... so will try that later (have a dr appt soon so can't do it right away..). The place you wanted me to look up says: 144GB capacity....Used...9.69 GB, and Free..134GB.. Is that what you wanted to know? Thanks, PAX NancyT Hi Nancy, I'm not sure what your problem is. I'm guessing you have a newish p.c. ? X.P. in itself is fat & older p.c.s don't tend to handle it to well, if at all. What temp files have you deleted ? Have you done scan disc & defrag, & a cleanup ? Also a virus scan in case something's filling your p.c. Also spyware can create problems. The other thing is double click "my computer", then right click the C drive icon, then down to properties. What does that say ? Nancy, if no-one can fix your problem (I hope someone has a better answer than me), please let me know, please make it obvious, like " for Carolyn" in the subject line, otherwise my delete finger may go crazy & I may never be seen again <G>. The 1st thing I'd do is run a virus scan ..... & BACK UP important files. Good luck Nancy, & if you need a hand YELL, hopefully someone will be able to help before I can get back. 3. I don't want to get in trouble with the admin so let me phrase this carefully. I just got an automatic alert about one of the newest "infections" that one can get hanging around online. It specifically said it can cause your computer to slow down, among other things. This URL was given for more information and a link on the page for curing the infection if you think you have it. http://us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/default.asp?id=description&virus_k=133409 I wouldn't make that assumption, but you said something in your message that caused me to wonder if you should at least check it out. This is usually a Firewall problem. What do you use and have you recently updated it ? A customer of mine recently updated their Norton 2005 and afterwards they too could not get onto the net or e-mail though they could connect fine. 3. The full description of this virus which causes the unwanted messages to be sent can be found on the Symantec site at: http://tinyurl.com/6fbcq Symantec also have a tool to download for anyone having difficulty removing this virus: http://tinyurl.com/yst4j As for stopping the messages reaching your computer, well that can be solved by using a program such as Mailwasher. Mailwasher will allow you to "view" your messages BEFORE you download them from your ISP's server. Mailwasher will indicate to you any suspect messages. Any such messages can be deleted before they reach your computer: http://entier.ecosm.com/system/redir.php?ad=15&aid=2359 It is the simplest way to ensure you get only the mail you WANT. You can't stop them being sent, but with Mailwasher you can prevent yourself receiving them. Lance

My own tends to get upset if the USB lead to the camera comes between the mouse and receiver - it gets very jittery and difficult to control. Try moving the receiver unit and/or cables to see if it helps. If nothing does then you may have a faulty unit and Gateway should replace it promptly. However they may ask you do re-install the driver software first just to check that it's not the problem. Gateway support should be able to talk you through it. If you have a plain old PS/2 mouse in the meantime you can use that till your fancy cordless one is replaced :-) HTH and Good Luck. -- Best regards, Barry mailto:barry@yobunny.co.uk MicroSoft Free Zone running Xandros 2.0 Deluxe

    3. Did the problem start after installing SP2 by any chance? I had that problem, and just had to fool with Control Panel---Mouse Properties for awhile. Some sort of conflict, and it was actually the Microsoft default driver I was using at that time. I have a new mouse without that problem, so I can't remember the exact wording of the choice to deselect. What it did though if I understand correctly, is make the mouse zero in on small targets. If you get close to a clickable item, the driver would make sure your click got results. Try and deselect that choice, or any other optional choices in your Mouse Properties one by one. You can always turn the functions back on again if it doesn't help. Do you have another mouse to test with? Try using an older mouse and see if you still have problems. If it is a conflict, and not some of the Spyware, etc. business that Sharyn was talking about, you may end up using another mouse eventually anyway! 3. I would call Gateway. It's possible that something is amiss in your settings. There are two places where you can control mouse motion. Start > Control Panel > Mouse or Start > Control Panel > Accessibility and click on the Mouse tab. Gateway can help you with the proper settings if it turns out the problem is in one of the settings. 3. Nancy: The way this worm (and others like it) is, as I think Joan explained, that when a computer is infected, it picks up a random address residing among the messages at the infected machine and uses that address as the "from" address and sends a copy of itself to others on the list. Floreda's address, for example, could have been in an incoming message in the mail of another member of this list and, if that member's machine is infected and been selected randomly as the sender. Personally, I think it is overkill and a waste of resources for ISP's and virus-blocking software to send notification that such messages have bounced. The ISP surely knows they are the work of a virus, worm or Trojan horse and therefore the "bounce message" is merely adding to the message load because they surely must know that you didn't send it - so why send a bounce message. If you are not running programs to remove these from your computer on a daily basis you may have picked up something. These are not caught by anti-virus programs. For information on these free programs, either search the archives of this list or Google for programs such as Lavasoft's Ad-Aware, Spybot, Spy Subtract and a host of others. They are now a part of the necessary protection we all need in addition to anti-virus programs if we ever visit websites or open email. I let my grandson visit a children's site right after scanning with those programs. When we exited the site I had 6 new "items" on my computer from that one site. Regards, Sharyn

    3. These are multiplying. Another came in with the subject line we've used: Your email was blocked. How can we stop this? Since it's not from the same, it's not possible to block their e-mail address? For anything else, I guess you'd just delete it as you come to it... they just say something dumb, anyway... but, if they are a virus, you sure don't want it... PAX & good luck! Floreda Floreda- These emails/attachments are infected with the new version of the sober worm and sent out forging your address as the sender. The virus takes addresses found on the infected computer and sends them to everyone else whose address is found on the infected computer. What you are getting here is the bounces because the ISP on the receiving end found and deleted the virus: + Attachment(s) deleted due to virus: 1. error-mail_info.zip/Winzipped-Text_Data.txt .pif: W32.S*ob*er.O@mm Just delete these and forget them. Note I munged the virus name above as one clueless ISP of a subscriber to this list blocked the original list message you sent saying IT was infected because the name of this virus was found in the email.
