    2. Hi List, asking for help again. Many thanks for all the help I have received from this list. I have Windows XP SP2 and was using Internet Exp. & Outlook Exp.6 with my prior ISP. Changed to a new ISP (Netzero.com) down loaded from the net (old ISP folded). Their mail is awkward and time consuming to me and I would perfer Internet Exp. to their "Web" to surf the internet. Is there anything that I can do to get back Outlook Express & Internet Explorer? I have clicked/searched and e-mail new server with no luck. Jo/OH

    3. Marie, my apologies to you and Charles for misreading your posting. Here is how you edit the URL's stored in "History" without deleting the ones you wish to keep. It involves editing your Registry, so do back that up before you attempt this. To backup the Registry, just clisk START|RUN and type regedit in the RUN box. Then click FILE|EXPORT and note where you save the export. Just name it "2005-05-09 RegBackup" for convenience. Now, with Registry Editor still open follow these steps: Click on HKEY_CURRENT_USER Then click the Software tab Click the Microsoft tab Click the Internet Explorer Click the Typed URLs tab Now on the right hand side of this screen(TYPED URLs) you will see little icons with "ab" on them, with "url1"; "url2"; etc. after them. The number will depend on how many typed URL's you have used in your searches and have been recorded here. You can see the description of each (which site you visited) a little way over to the right on that screen (use the slide bar at the bottom if necessary) For the ones you DON'T NEED, just right-click each of the little "ab" icons in turn and select DELETE from the context menu. Do this until all the ones you don't want are deleted. Then close the Registry Editor. You should now find that only the URL's you want are in the drop down list as you type in the address bar. 3. I use NetZero and it does download to my mail program. Click on your NetZero web when you are signed in, go to help. When there copy and paste in this url: http://www.netzero.net/support/email/email-setup-msoex6.html It should take you to the instructions for setting up Outlook Express 6 to receive and send mail. 3. Marie, to edit or delete entries in your FAVORITES folder, just open Internet Explorer, then click FAVORITES|ORGANIZE FAVORITES. On this window you can edit; delete; or create new folders for your Favorites. Another approach is to locate your FAVORITES folder which in XP should be in your: C:\Documents and Settings\<your name>\Favorites. Here you can see all the entries - either URL's or folders. Just delete the ones here that are no longer needed. Or you can alternatively create folders to organize your Favorites. A far better approach though would be to use Firefox as your browser. Firefox has a far superior Bookmarks Manager - very similar to the familiar Windows Explorer screen: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ Firefox can import all of your current IE Favorites. The ultimate system though is to use Powermarks. This program makes managing Favorites/Bookmarks a breeze. No more worrying about where you saved a favorite or creating folders. Power marks lets you find things in an instant: http://www.kaylon.com/power.html Lance P. S. Check out Legacy Family Tree today! "Strange," I thought, but didn't take time to analyze what I might have done. Since then I have had at least one friend tell me she has e-mailed me, but I haven't been aware of receiving it. Today, I checked my K-9 folder, after seeing only 4 new messages, when Outlook Express said I had 8. There were two of the un received messages in K-9, but I couldn't view attachments. Later on, I realized that my friend probably does a * reply-to* when sending me a new message. Well, without going on much longer, I'll just say that by searching a bit, I did find a few new messages in the recent files that were grouped next to that "+" in the list of new messages. My question is how can I go back to my former status, where I don't group messages of the same subject together? I use Windows 2000. Thank you, Barbara

    3. Richard, just replace your CD drive not your computer if it is working ok. Four screws and a couple of cable plugs are all that you will be dealing with. My CD player was also acting oddly, too. After trying everything I could think of to bring it back to life I decided to just live without it until I could afford a new computer. Your advice worked like magic. Thanks again. Rich

    3. Hello John, Saturday, May 7, 2005, 8:58:36 AM, you wrote: JW> I have recorded a voice message into a MP3 voice recorder then JW> transferred the MP3 file into my XPSP2 computer all OK so far. It could be that the voice recorder is using a compression level that the DVD player can't handle. Whereas a PC can be updated easily it's not as easy to update stand-alone players, they aren't made to be updated. You may be able to adjust the voice recorder to a lower level of compression, but that would mean you'd have less recording time on it - even then the stand-alone player might not cope and the only way to find out is to try it. Assuming the voice recorder is adjustable of course. -- Best regards, Barry mailto:barry@yobunny.co.uk MicroSoft Free Zone running Xandros 2.0 Deluxe

    3. Hello Nancy, Saturday, May 7, 2005, 4:07:46 PM, you wrote: NT> Barry, NT> I was having some problems earlier and my ISP installed this NT> "AdAware" for me... Norton is pretty slow at the best of times and you could have left it running whilst you were out then when you got back it would either show a clean system or have stopped at the detection of a virus. I think you can set it to auto-clean and carry on but not being a Norton user I'm nor sure of that. You do need to run a complete scan though, same as AdAware. I don't exactly remember what it was, that I was NT> "missing".... it also said I had to delete some files to get the NT> needed "something"... but I would have NO IDEA of what to delete! Now this is unusual as you have plenty of free space on your Hard Drive from the figures below ( presumably you got these from the My Computer icon and getting the properties of the drive ? ). When you ran it you should have got a display showing the used space with blue, red, yellow and white areas. The white parts show the free space you have - how much white area does it show and how much of the display is red ?? Clip-art isn't that much of a space hog and you'd need hundreds of thousands of files to even begin to make a dent in that 144Gb of space <lol> NT> Sorry.... but I am not really good at this part of computing.... NT> (I'm not very mechanically minded, either!..LOL) That's OK - you don't have to be a technical guru to work a PC, just like you don't need to be a mechanic to drive a car :-) Lets take things one step at a time and see if we can get to the bottom of this. -- Best regards, Barry mailto:barry@yobunny.co.uk MicroSoft Free Zone running Xandros 2.0 Deluxe

    2. Thanks all for the help. I went to Control Panel and tried setting it slower and it helped enough that I can control it but it's still not where it was. I also know that the Spyware that I use is no longer working so I will go to Google and find another. Any suggestions? I am so leary to download anything. With previous computers I was always downloading this or that and eventually things started acting up. Ellen
