    3. With all that has been written about browsers over the last year, this site has some interesting comparisons. Not only does it have timeline comparisons of how the various browsers sustained or repelled attacks, it allows you to test your current browser's security (click "The Browser Security Test" link on this page): http://bcheck.scanit.be/bcheck/page.php?name=STATS2004&page=1 Click NEXT at the bottom of each page to find a report on each of the browsers - IE, Firefox, Opera, Mozilla. 3. Hi List: I purchased an Epson CX4600 All-in-one a week ago and cannot get it working. I am running Windows98SE, have plenty of memory and disk space and the documention states it will work with 98SE. When I am installing the software everything is fine until I get to the point where I am supposed to plug in the USB cable to my computer -as soon as I plug in the cable, I get the system message " msgsrv32 has caused protection fault......" - my computer froze at this point and I had to reboot, until tonight's attempt to install, I waited a few minutes and unplugged the cable and the software finished installing but of course I can't print etc..without printer and computer being connected. I am using the cable from my old printer but the man at Best Buy told me if the cable fits it will work - and it does fit both printer and computer. Does anyone have any suggestions on my problem or a solution - I have emailed tech support at Epson but haven't heard back from them yet. Thank you for any help. Jeri

    3. Sharyn, the LUCOMSERVER 2.6 belongs to the software LiveUpdate by Symantec Corporation (www.symantec.com). So it appears you may have a problem with updating any Symantec product you may have installed. It would be best to check with them. This Symantec site gives you the steps to follow in using LiveUpadte: http://tinyurl.com/2j1s On the other hand, if you DON'T have any Symantec product installed, check to see if you have a pest, which uses that name, installed in your C:\Windows or C:\windows\system32 folders. Look for "LuComServer_2_6.EXE" in either of those folders. If you do find it there, run Adaware, SpyBot or Pest Patrol. Lance P. S. Check out Legacy Family Tree today! MicroSoft's errors have never been very clear, and all those numbers afterwards would only mean something to their technical guru's - for the rest of us they are just numbers :-) In case you're wondering, no it wouldn't help to send these numbers to them - they may use them to bug check their OS but you'd not get any feedback about your problem, that not what the numbers are for. SH> LUCOMSERVER_2_6 caused an invalid page fault This means a memory error - the program has tried to access memory that either doesn't exist or it shouldn't be using. If a re-boot of the PC doesn't cure it then the likely problem is a corrupt program and in such cases it needs to be re-installed. As has been stated, this is part of Symantec Live Update so it seems there's someone else here that is having trouble in that area. Wonder if there's been a problem at Symantec with their update servers sending out bad data to some folks? We'd never get to know, the thing is for those affected to know how to fix it. So you either need to update Live Update manually, or remove your Norton and re-install it. If you already have the latest Live Update then you'll need to remove it totally using Add/Remove Programs before re-installing, may be easier just to remove the whole of Norton and put it back. If you are wary about using your plastic card on-line ( and I don't blame you for being cautious when it comes to buying from places you can't be 100% sure of ) then the options are to find somewhere that will take a personal cheque - this is difficult to say the least in an international internet !! The other way to do it is to obtain a debit card on a separate bank account that you only keep sufficient funds in to cover the amount you spend. That way, if there are un-authorised debits on your card they'll not be accepted. Many people use that system as a safeguard and as long as you ensure you transfer funds before using the card then it works well. I haven't had the time needed to run the virus scan yet...I know from past experience that it takes some time... and I need to have some time when I do not need to be on the computer! I sure do thank you for your help! PAX NancyT NT> I found out for myself that it does not pick up where it left NT> off.... <sigh>....so that will have to wait til I don't need to be NT> on the computer.... NT> I ran the "defrag"...and the "Check Disc" (it would be really NICE NT> if they did not change names on you!!) Did the Defrag run this time ?? As for Check Disc - this has always been included with Windows but previously it wasn't much to write home about and it would always suggest you ran Scan Disc instead. With WinXP they decided to beef up Check Disc so that Scan Disc wasn't needed any more .... don't try to understand the logic behind this, there isn't any - it's just MicroSoft <lol> NT> As to the "Pie".... the blue has 9.77GB out of a total of 144GB... This shows you have oodles of free space there, so if Defrag isn't showing a similar amount of white space then something is amiss. NT> I checked out this Disc Cleanup, and this is what it said.... at NT> the top of the "box".....would gain 608,163KB of Disc Space... Most of this space saving is from Compressing Old Files - and apart from taking an age to apply you aren't going to see any sort of improvement. WinXP applies this by default to any file that hasn't been accessed for 50 days - the downside being if you then decide to start using those files it's slower to access them as they have to be un-compressed first. You can set this time limit up to 499 days. 1. Sub Columns in MS Word Spreadsheet
    2. Joe Twitchin
    3. I have a very bad photocopy of a page from the 1821 Marylebone census and I would like to transfer all the detail to MSW Spreadsheet. The problem that I have is that the original sheet has column headings and some of those columns have sub columns. For instance one column heading covers 'Number of Males' and below this there are sub columns which split into the ages of the males like this; 'Ages of males [grouped Under 5, 5-10, 10-15, 15-20, then in 10-year ranges to 100+]'. Then there is the same for females. How do I get sub columns under those headings on the MSW Spreadsheet that I propose to transfer the data onto? Joe
