    3. I too am interested in this. I have had a problem with the little trojan horses again. Another problem caused from a website that downloads it without your doing anything. I have deleted so many .exe that I knew were not on before......But, I am so afraid I will take off something I need.... Everything is slow and dragging. When I open a word document it takes for ever for it to come up and then another forever for the txt to show. In other words I have really big trouble, I think. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Version: 7.0.322 / Virus Database: 266.11.17 - Release Date: 5/25/05

    1. RE: [SR-NEWBIE] Re: Checking Bookmarks or Favorites
    2. Lance
    3. Yes, Lloyd, AM-Deadlink is limited in some aspects. I found that it only checked 483 of my Bookmarks in Firefox, while I actually have 3160. In IE it checked a lesser amount (both IE and Firefox have the same links). I guess that was the reason I uninstalled it a few years back. One of the new fixes in AM-Deadlink is that it now searches Firefox as a separate entity from Mozilla. Just a pity it doesn't search ALL the links, though. Powermarks on the other hand does an automatic check of links (I have mine set to a daily check). It works equally with all the popular browsers. It marks suspect links so they can be manually deleted whenever. The search feature in AM-Deadlink is limited to the words in the actual link listing. Powermarks allows "keywords" to be added to any link and it will conduct a search just using those keywords. For example, I have a site recorded as "Adriamycin http://www.bmi.net/mcaron/adria.html" in my Bookmarks. If I used the search in AM-Deadlink for "cancer" it would not find that bookmark amongst all the other references to cancer. Powermarks would locate it though as one of the keywords I have recorded in its Properties is "cancer". An interesting feature with AM-Deadlink is that it will search for "favicons". Those are those little icons that appear in the URL address window and in your bookmarks on some sites. Some websites don't have them written into their coding. They serve no purpose other than making a long list a lot more interesting and making some site readily identifiable from all the others. Lance P. S. Check out Legacy Family Tree today! 3. Trueman, as well as using AM-Deadlink (as has been recommended), you can also import your IE Favorites into Firefox, and Firefox Bookmarks into IE. Another way of handling bookmarks/favorites is to use PowerMarks. With Powermarks you have no more worrying about creating folders. You just use a simple search screen, similar to Google, to find any bookmark you have saved. Just type in a word or words and it will popup all references in a matter of seconds. It's not freeware but is a great time-saver and worth the money: http://www.kaylon.com/power.html You can also back-up your bookmarks to their website for future retrieval. Lance P. S. 3. Floreda -- Do get a gmail or yahoo e-mail address. Then unsubscribe to SR-Newbie and then subscribe to it with your new address -- It is neat to have more than one e-mail address, Your new gmail address could be just for SR-Newbie messages! Also you could view your e-mail while on vacation if you have access to a computer. Lance suggests that you use a combination of numbers and letters for your e-mail address and that way you probably will not get any span! Try it you will like it. 3. Floreda: The same problem presented itself to me after I combined my internet, cable, and phone. 10MB of storage was it for me as well. This isn't much space at all. My solution has been to obtain a Yahoo email account which is free. It took a bit of time to unsubscribe from mailing lists and then resubscribe using the Yahoo address. My friends began to think I was crazy for changing my email address more than once. lol But the point is...it's been worth it. No longer do I need worry if any email will be turned away. 3. I have now installed and used the program. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending it since it works beautifully. You will be offered a backup, do that for peace of mind, then have it check the favorites and sort with bad ones to top. Highlighting them and deleting them will work. Pay attention to the caution that not receiving an okay could simply mean that a website is down for some reason and the favorite might well be good. In my own case since I more often use Google than I do favorites, I deleted. It's up to you.
