    3. This site will help you figure out your memory needs. Two simple methods: 1- 'Crucial Memory AdvisorT Tool', where you choose your computer, product line, and model. 2- Especially if your computer is not standard or has been modified use 'Crucial System Scanner' which will scan your system and give you lots of memory info. http://www.crucial.com/ David ----- Original Message ----- From: "Barry" <barry@yobunny.co.uk> To: <SENIOR-NEWBIE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, May 27, 2005 2:39 PM Subject: Re: [SR-NEWBIE] RAM > Hello BHold1, > > Thursday, May 19, 2005, 6:31:38 PM, you wrote: > > Bac> I really need to buy some RAM for my computer. The numbers tell you how fast the RAM can move data, and this is based on the frequency that it operates - this in turn relates to the speed that your motherboard can work at. So getting the fastest ( PC3200 ) won't make any difference if your system can only operate at PC2100. On the other hand - trying to fit PC2100 RAM into a system set to run at PC3200 will cause major crashes and problems as it just cannot work reliably at that speed. There are different ways to pay for internet access. In the USA most pay by the month for unlimited access, though some still pay by the hour. Other countries have different systems which make it really important to keep messages short so that download time is also short. So, when replying, please "snip" all but the really important part of the message that identifies the part to which you are replying. Your international friends will be grateful. Regards, Sharyn

    3. What is Gmail? - Quick Facts - Screenshots - FAQ What is Gmail? As part of Google's mission to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful, we're testing an email service called Gmail. Gmail is a free, search-based webmail service that includes more than 2,000 megabytes (two gigabytes) of storage. The backbone of Gmail is a powerful Google search engine that quickly finds any message an account owner has ever sent or received. That means there's no need to file messages in order to find them again. When Gmail displays an email, it automatically shows all the replies to that email as well, so users can view a message in the context of a conversation. There are no pop-ups or untargeted banner ads in Gmail, which places relevant text ads and links to related web pages adjacent to email messages. http://gmail.google.com/gmail/help/about.html Many of us here have invitations. At this time, Gmail accounts are only available by invitation. Elaine Always acknowledge a fault. 3. Thanks for that Carolyn. it is not the mail I'm worried about as I use MailWasher, it is the downloads coming in without my permission. I had a fit when I saw 3.5 megs coming in. I will have to learn not to panic. & think things through. before pushing the panic button, but that is easier to say then do in my case. 3. Lance, I just did that.... it has pretty big print... and it's 218 pages using both sides of the paper...I think I may bring it into Office Max and let them comb-bind it for me... the "combs" you can buy only go up to 5/8 of an inch, and that would get pretty tight...If they do it for me, they've got a one inch comb which would allow the pages to be turned more easily... 1. Re: [SR-NEWBIE] Downloads

    3. Arthur, you would probably be more secure if you shut off the Windows Firewall and ran Zone Alarm. If you didn't initiate the download, could it have been an automatic download of Windows updates? Do you have that option turned on? The other important point with downloads - any download other than Windows updates - is to have a designated folder into which they go. If you have a separate hard drive that is a good spot to create it. If not, have it on separate partition at least. Firefox will allow you to nominate your downloads folder, so that every download goes there. Then when you have it downloaded, you can run your AV program over it to ensure it is safe before doing anything else with it.
