You may need to roll your system back to before you did the first update, or even remove AOL and re-install from scratch. However, AOL has telephone support so you may want to give them a try first - they can do things from their end of the connection that you can't do. HTH and Good Luck - I'm in agreement with Nancy that when AOL goes wrong it usually does it in style !! -- Best regards, Barry mailto:barry@yobunny.co.uk MicroSoft Free Zone running Xandros 2.0 Deluxe

Word 97 will work just fine on your WinXP system so no problem there, you could try using Wordpad but it's very limiting and probably wouldn't do what you want without a lot of hassle. Thanks Lance - will try that option.
Thank you all for replies. Ruth in NJ
In OE, click Tools, Options. Send....there is a block you can check to save mail sent to your Sent file. My experience is that they stay there then until you choose to delete. Thank you all..... Ruth
Hi Ruth. I have emails in my deleted folder from back in 2003. So I guess there is no limit. I have about 3,000 and am deleting again.....slow but sure! As to Microsoft Word. It came with my Windows XP....I think you were asking about it. I also have Word Pad which came with the XP Home edition package. Are you asking for help with using the computer? In addition to Senior Newbie, I bought "Teach Yourself Visually....the fast and easy way to learn" It is all about Windows XP and is EASY to follow. It is filled with pictures that take you step by step if you have a problem. Of course NO book will tell you everything, but I have gotten along pretty well with this book. It covers both Home and Professional Editions of Windows XP. Ruth, I guess I always assumed they stayed there 'til you deleted them.... Perhaps, I'm wrong... I don't know for sure, as I delete any I don't want right after I've sent them, and before I sign off.... I do know that assumptions can get you into BIG, BIG trouble..... Dear all, Yesterday I repeatedly uninstalled and re-installed free AVG Anti-Virus without success, icon stayed grey and my computer wouldn't update. This morning I went through the process again, doing nothing different, and was successful first time. I don't know why it worked this time but perseverance paid off. Thank you very much to you kind people for your most welcome help. Best wishes, Jenny.
Hi Doris, > Jenny, I would uninstall AVG and then re-install it. > Thanks for trying to help but I tried that without success. All the best, Jenny.
Jenny, it could be that your firewall is blocking the update. If you download this "PDF" file it has the settings AVG requires for the three of the most popular firewalls - Windows XP; Kerio and Zone Alarm: http://free.grisoft.cz/softw/70free/doc/avg_free_firewall_install_en_70_4.pd f You may find a solution to your problem by using the recommended settings. Hi all, I'm asking for help again please if anyone can do so. The AVG Anti-Virus Icon in my task bar has greyed out and I get a message telling me that the Internal Virus Database is out of date but when I try to update, a message appears each time telling me the update was unsuccessful. I also get a message asking me to restart the computer which I've tried numerous times, but the icon stays grayed out. Uninstalling then reinstalling AVG doesn't change these things. Can anyone help please? Regards, Jenny.
