Howdy I don't post much because alot of others on this list are sure smarter than I am, but just for your information, I never have to worry about losing bookmarks/favorites with my real simple method. I keep them in a web-enabled site. Meaning I put them in a site I can get no matter where I am in the world, as long as I can get to the internet. I keep them in a site called www.mybookmarks.com I probably have over 1500 in this site now. You can import and export to another site if you want to. You simply set up a name for your site and then have a password. It's worked for me for years. It's fairly easily to set up. You can also load a little program called REMARK from that site that puts a little symbol down at the bottom to click on to allow you to enter sites etc. Believe me it's simple and it can save alot of problems. I also put many in Yahoo's site. You can retrieve them later if you lost them because your computer crashed or otherwise also. I have always lived by the thought..KISS ...Keep It Simple Sam. That's really not what the fourth word is but that will work, so as not to offend anybody. Just as an added thought, it's FREE. Can't get much better than that! I also use the magnifier. It's a super toy!! Wally
I am trying to install "MSN Viewer" and it get's part of it installed and then comes up with this error message: "An I/O error occured while installing a file. This is normally caused by bad installation media or a corrupt installation file" Does anyone know what this means and how can I correct it? Thanks for your help.
You could change to using Firefox as your browser as it has an extension allowing you to "ZOOM IN" or "ZOOM OUT" on images. Lance ---------- Lance, I meant to send this to the list. Sorry. You and others are about to convince me that I should try FireFox. Where should I read about it? Velma

I have many old floppies with genealogy information on them from when I had Word Perfect on old computer. I no longer have Word Perfect and am unable to read these floppies. Is there any way I can salvage this info? I don't know anyone who currently has Word Perfect on their computer so I can't access the floppies from their machine. I have so many I think it would cost a fortune to have a tech work on them. Thank you. Gold
http://24.124.23.2/programs/archives/index.htm Scroll down to and click on Magnifying Glass (the download will start): Magnifying Glass v1.01 - Run this program (called oldpeople.exe), and a magnifying glass shows up, allowing you to "zoom" in on the page. Excellent program. Once you run it, a tiny "magnifying glass" shows up in the lower right part of the screen. Whenever you want to zoom, just click on it, and a big magnifying glass on the screen appears. Click again, and it disappears. This file is the actual executable file, it is not an archive. Just run it every time you start your computer, and you will have it handy to use. The file is 270K in size. Highly recommended. Elaine What if there were no hypothetical questions? I don't know how I did this (again) but I've lost everything in my Start Menu. When I click on the Start button all I see is My Computer. This happened a few weeks ago and I can't remember how I got everything back to normal. If someone can help me I'd sure appreciate it, as I can't even shut down the computer. This time I'll write down the instructions. Thanks in advance.
I am trying to locate the website for the magnifier that I had on my old computer. When it crashed I lost the site and I do remember that I learned about it here at Senior Newbies. Would SKS please post. TIA Ruth in NJ

Hello Rose, I tried to email you privately to thank you for being thoughtful enough to try to help with the problem I had, but your address is in a 'safe mode' which I do understand. My problem has now been rectified but thank you very much. All the best, Jenny.
Tools, Options, Maintenance - check mark in Empty messages from the Deleted items folder on exit It might take a minute or so the first time since you have so many in there. You can delete some of them before closing the program by going to the bottom one, hold the shift key, then go up about 50 messages and click on one of those, then click Delete Courtney ----- Original Message ----- From: "Len/Ruth Brummett" <brummett@sigecom.net> > Hi Ruth. When I changed from 98SE with OE6 to XP with OE6 I discovered that all of my attachments in the Digest mode were transposed, i.e. the ATT...emls file is shown at the bottom of the list of attachments rather than at the top and run from bottom to top. Thus, when reading my Digests I must start at the bottom and work my way up in order to see the questions and then the answers to them. This is most frustrating and time consuming and am wondering if anyone can tell me what caused this transposition and how to change it back to the original positioning. Also, I have the preview window showing and cannot disengage the preview, which I do not want for security reasons. Any and all help will be welcomed as I am not so quietly losing my mind hunting for cures to these two problems. Boots boots3@tampabay.rr.com
Keeping unwanted messages in mail programs tends to slow the program down. It is best to empty the Deleted Items folder regularly. Archiving old messages is another way of reducing the size. These sites can help with suggestions in that area: http://www.oeupdates.com/Archive-Outlook-Express-Email.html http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/faqs/how.htm#archive The more messages you retain in OE, the longer it takes to load and react. Keep it lean and clean is a good habit to maintain. Incidentally, Ruth, Windows XP does not include MS Word. It would have been installed as a separate program on your computer by the supplier. WordPad, however, has been an integral part of Windows in many versions. Lance P. S. Check out Legacy Family Tree today! I have emails in my deleted folder from back in 2003. So I guess there is no limit. I have about 3,000 and am deleting again.....slow but sure! As to Microsoft Word. It came with my Windows XP....I think you were asking about it. I also have Word Pad which came with the XP Home edition package. Are you asking for help with using the computer? In addition to Senior Newbie, I bought "Teach Yourself Visually....the fast and easy way to learn" It is all about Windows XP and is EASY to follow. It is filled with pictures that take you step by step if you have a problem. Of course NO book will tell you everything, but I have gotten along pretty well with this book. I know this has been answered before but I can't remember the answer. Some one will send you an email with pictures. You forward them to other people. When their email comes through there are no pictures......just blank boxes with small squares with a red X in them. How do you get to see the pictures that were forwarded to you? TIA Ruth in IN
