I seem to have done something stupid to my contact list - not the one on the front of the O.E. but when I go to forward something to a friend and I use the "Forward" and the "To" list on this one - my names (which used to be all in alphabetical order) are now all jumbled up - I am sure I must have clicked on something but have been trying to undo it, and the more I try to fix it, the more all the names get jumbled up. Hope someone can tell me how to get these back to being in Alphabetical order. Thanks in advance. Jessie

If they charged you for the sound repair then I'd take the thing back and tell them to fix it properly this time for no extra charge. From what you say in the rest of your post I suspect there's a hardware problem or the sound is disabled in BIOS - no matter, if you sent it in for repair with a sound problem then they should have checked it out properly. When you go to collect it again, make sure they show you it working in the shop !! Did you phone them and say that your sound still isn't working ? Also, what was the other reason for sending in for fixing ?? -- Best regards, Barry mailto:barry@yobunny.co.uk MicroSoft Free Zone running Xandros 2.0 Deluxe

    3. Sharyn--Are you sure you have the speakers plugged into the correct hole , it's very easy to make this mistake I have, but then I'm not the brightest kid on the block !!!! One of the issues I had was "no sound". They said they updated the sound card drivers and all is well. I still have no sound. Now I'm wondering exactly what I should be seeing in the Control Panel or Systems folder about sound. I have a new speaker system I bought today, thinking the old one was bad (and it was very old). I have WIN98SE as my OS. Now, here's my problem: When I go to Accessories>Entertainment>Volume Control and click on it, nothing opens. When I go to Control Panel>Sounds and try to play a sample, nothing happens because the button for 'play' is greyed out. When I try to "Find" 'volume control' or 'sound' nothing comes up. I have a WIN 98 book that says to try reinstalling Audio Compression and Volume Control from the disc. I did. They appear checked under Multimedia in the Add/Remove>Win Setup tab BUT, no Volume Control now appears under Start>Accessories>Entertainment now. What should I have, or be able to do, that I don't or can't? 3. Hmmm - I can't think of anything else. Did it work a while ago ? Is it possible the Audio out is marked wrong also ? What kind of computer is it ? Some of them have a "Sound finder" program in them. Possible Windows help - no sound - should fix it. I used to use it quite a bit when I had Win98 - it always seemed to work until the next time it cut off <smile> Courtney > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Courtney Tompkins" <ctompkins@cox.net> > >> Anything is possible- mine didn't work either and turned out the color >> coding was wrong, and as I recall it's green also. 1. Need help with PAF
    2. Grace Inman
    3. I hope I've sent this to the right list ... I'm still learning my way around here. I have XP and I'm using LDS's PAF genealogy software. I often do their "backup" available from their File menu. I also do a weekly backup on a CD-RW. Each time, of course, this overwrites what was previously on the CD. My problem arises from the many PAF files that are created. It appears that very often when I do a backup on a CD-RW, another file is created. I have them ending in .pal, .paf, and .zip. Whenever I do the PAF backup, it automatically shows that each of these files has been updated, too. When I click on Jones-Smith genealogy.paf (a fictitious name in the same format as my own genealogy file name), the file opens, but the title shown at the top of the screen is 1\Owner\MYDOCUMENT~1\SMITH~1.PAF. Sometimes this is a read-write file, and sometimes it is a read only file. This is driving me crazy. Today I opened a file, spent 45 minutes typing additional info, only to look down and see that "Save" was grayed out. I spent another 15 minutes copying it down in my rusty shorthand, then looked for another of the 7 PAF files that would let me save it, and re-typed it to that file. Is this all standard for PAF? Or am I doing something wrong? Any help will be gratefully received. Grace in Georgia, USA In God we trust.

    3. Anything is possible- mine didn't work either and turned out the color coding was wrong, and as I recall it's green also. I had to plug it into the one with no color. Look for a same type jack right next to the one you have it plugged into even if it is the wrong color. Some of them say in very tiny lettering audio out, audio in - it should be on the audio out.
