I am trying to find Task Manager. I am using Windows ME. I can not seem to find what you are discribing. Also if this is suppose to be there, then my question is that it never showed up in the running programs before, why is it there now and why do I sometimes have two and three. Lance, is PrcView similiar to Belarc Advisor? If so, how does one compare to the other? With Win98 you have to install drivers from a CD first, and you should have either got a CD or instructions where to download them from. Once you've installed the drivers, just plug the device in and the first time Windows will go through the 'found new device' thing. Once that's gone through, your new drive will show up in My Computer / Windows Explorer with its own drive letter. Just copy / paste the data you have on the C: drive to the new drive. Don't copy the actual Windows program or other programs, just copy data. Once you've got your new drive and installed Windows / Programs you can install the jump drive again then copy your data back again. One thing that Windows 98 has over WinMe / WinXP / Linux is that you can just unplug / re-plug the device ( the others all need you to stop the drive correctly or you'll end up corrupting your data ). Just make sure that the data has actually copied over fully before removing of course - my own drive has a flashing light to tell me when data is moving. Is this ok to have on the computer. If so how come I have Internet Explorer and lexplore (This is the way it is on the running programs) ? Is this a part of Internet Explorer? Hi, Need some help. When I do the ctl, alt, delete to see what programs are running I get "lexplore" twice. I have looked this up and I do not know exactly what it is. It says it is not a virus, worm or trojan. I have tryed the removal tools and I do not have in my registry what they say to look for. When I try to delete it then it comes back and puts another one on. Then I have three. It seems like it multiplys. Also if I let the computer Idle for a short while then I get extra programs added and I run out of resources so bad that I can not even shut the computer off with out quitting some of the programs by the crtl, alt, delete method. Does someone know how to get rid of this?
Here are a couple of sites which will explain how an optical mouse works, Nancy: http://computer.howstuffworks.com/question631.htm http://www.pantherproducts.co.uk/Articles/Mice/Optical_Mice.shtml Lance -----Original Message----- From: Nancy Tollefson [mailto:mamat@gvtel.com] Sent: Saturday, 13 August 2005 1:13 PM To: SENIOR-NEWBIE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [SR-NEWBIE] RE:mouse problmes Emma, How does it work, if it doesn't have a ball? Where you put the transmitter in relationship to the mouse and to other equipment, makes a big difference. I have a cordless mouse and keyboard and a cordless phone system base station - all on my desk. I had to put the mouse-keyboard transmitter on the floor and the phone base station on the far side of the desk before everything worked perfectly. Once in awhile the mouse 'acts up' and I find that the vacuum cleaner, my foot, etc has moved the transmitter. It's really a simple problem to work with. Sharyn

I think this problem is well covered in 'google' Go to http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLD,GGLD:2004-40,GGLD:en&q=jerky+mouse and find out how to cure the malady. Joe
Nancy, another area that may need cleaning is your mouse pad. While this is a particularly important task when using an infra-red type mouse, it can also affect the performance of a ball-type mouse. Any crumb or other impediment could cause an incorrect signal being generated by the mouse. See if that is what your problem is. Hi Bettye, I can't talk about cordless optical mouse as all of mine are still the type with cords. I have 3 at home and 1 at work. But, another man at work got the cordless optical mouse for both of his at home. He had some difficulty until he figured out there was some kind of interference with the signals. He moved something from one place to another and it started working. It might have been one of those phone systems that comes with one of those "radio signals". systems. Not for sure about that though. Just an idea.... take care - Emma In a message dated 8/13/05 3:30:25 AM Central Daylight Time, BHold1@aol.com writes: << Everyone has different experiences. Hi Bettye, Did you try start, settings, control panel, mouse ? That's where you can adjust the speed and such. Hi Nancy, It is an optical mouse and while I can't really give a technical explanation it looks just like any other mouse from the top. But it has a little red light in the bottom. That red light is a optical device that senses as you move the mouse across the mouse pad and then moves the cursor on the screen. No little ball to clean. I just wipe off the mouse ever once in a while. The information that came with mine indicated that you didn't even need a mouse pad. Just move it across your table or desk surface. Am setting here right now with 2 computers side by side. Both have an optical mouse. I have a mouse pad with one and use the other one with a mouse pad. Can't really tell the difference at all in terms of having or not having a mouse pad. Both work great. Hope this helps a bit. Make sure it has the same kind of plug as your does, some have both included, but I'm not sure all do. If you can find one cheap, go for a cordless optical. Best thing I ever did ! But I do see a difference in how it handles on various surfaces. I find my laminated desktop too slippery and some mouse pads are too soft. For me a firm mousepad with a plastic surface (mine can have photos put inside a clear pocket) works best. Obviously that is different for everyone so you need to experiment to find the surface that works for you. Also, the 4 little 'footpads' on the bottom of my Logitech mouse accumulate surface dust as a slight 'coating' which needs to be wiped off from time to time. Sharyn
