    3. Georgia, Thanks again for the info. Interesting how the name appears and its various spellings over time. Thanks for taking a look. Much appreciated! Yes, my line of Sellers is of German descent. From what we can tell, the family line is traced as far back as Heinrich Zeller (17 Aug 1704 - ca 1773) and wife Anna Maria, who came to America from Germany in 1738. Heinrich began appearing in Virginia in the Elkton and McGaheysville area in late 1749 - early 1750 on land records as "Henry Seller". Most notably, he is listed in the Peaked Mountain Church records as the baptismal sponsor for several of his grandchildren in the early 1750's as well. I'm thankful that his son-in-law, John Jacob Nicholaus, is the apparent author of these early records. Hope that wasn't too long-winded of an answer ... :-) Michael Sellers -----Original Message----- From: Georgia Fletcher [mailto:chick@blzwire.com] Sent: Thursday, October 09, 2003 10:16 AM To: SELLERS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: [SELLERS] Samuel Howard Sellers It was written as Zellers in 1920 Greene County, Iowa for John Newton Sellers. The index lists William A. Sellers as William A. Zellers also but it looks like Sellers to me in the actual census. John is definitely written as Zellers, however. I still cannot find Samuel Howard Sellers in 1920. Are your Sellers of German descent? This is certainly them. No doubt about it. Am I reading this correctly in that the name was listed as "Zellers" for the 1920 Greene County, Iowa Census? That's the first I've seen or heard of the name being used as "Zellers" instead of as "Sellers" by that generation of the family. Though it originated as "Zeller", its been some form of "Sellers" without a 'Z' since the late 1700's.... Bruce and Frances Cullen. Frances has been known in our records as "Fannie Gulton". However, it would appear from her gravestone that she was Frances Cullen, not Gulton. All three are buried in the Mt. Vernon City Cemetery in the Mt. Vernon Township, Davison County, S.D. The following info is found for them from the cemetery: LNAME FNAME MNAME AGE BIRTH DEATH BLK/LOT SELLERS Frances 49 1879 1928 69-2 SELLERS Clara May 49 1864 1913 69-2 SELLERS Samuel H 75 1865 1940 69-2 Notes for Frances Sellers show that her maiden name was Cullen and that she was the daughter of "Daniel & __(Wynant)". Notes for Clara May Sellers show that her maiden name was Bruce and that she was "wife of Samuel H." Hopefully, I'll have as much good luck finding the other two brothers, John Newton and William Arthur, along with the children of all 3 brothers. Hope this info is helpful to others besides just myself and isn't just a boring read ... As much as I appreciate the info, it makes me remember the sadness my grandfather felt at the passing of his cousins and childhood friends. As I've stated before, my grandfather took me with him in 1981 when he went to visit them one last time. I think it was much like a "farewell tour" for him and the cousins. As my grandfather put it with a laugh, he wanted to go out there from Virginia and see everyone again "before we all become too old and decrepit". Meeting Lucille, Leona, and Mary was a pleasure because they were truly nice people. By the way, I was also able to find the following for Arena Lucille Sellers, daughter of Samuel Howard Sellers, married Charles Clement Svoboda: SSDI Arrena Svoboda: Born 21 Sept 1901, died 28 Dec. 1993; last known zip code 60148, Flowerfield, Du Page, Illinois; Lombard, Du Page, Illinois; SSN 324-56-5318 issued in Illinois. Again, thanks for the much appreciated effort and info. Now that we've established where these children were, I'm hopeful I can find not only where they are buried but also where Samuel Howard Sellers and either of his two wives are buried as well.
