    3. For a surname DNA study, you must have direct male descendants of a Sellers ancestor. Most of the surname studies are limited to the Y-chromosome. Since only men have a Y-chromosome, only male SELLERS can participate. MtDna (or mitochondrial DNA) is passed on through a strictly female line. All females possess the mitochondrial DNA of their mothers, grandmothers, etc., and they will pass it on to all of their children. Their daughters will pass it on to their children, but in the case of sons, it is the sons' wives who will pass on their DNA. Note that I had my MtDNA done by the Bryan Sikes group at Oxford University. Note that if I am stating something obvious here, it is because I have not had a chance to review all of the contributions on this subject from Sellers list. SHERRY
