CAROLE, thanks. This is the way I understand it. When we receive our kit and number, there is a release form in there also, which we need to sign if we want to share the chart they make for us. When they receive the kit and signed form back, they give them a password, which I thought was the kit number? The SELLERS GROUP ADM (me right now) has a diff password just for the member info and can NOT be shared. NOW, when we return our kit, we should get a password for my brother and perhaps that will do what you are discussing down below? DOES that help? The Legal and PRIVACY pages under FAQ explains better than me. I will check into how some of the other SURNAME pages do theirs. WHAT does your group have? marie, iowa Your unique locator number will accompany your collection tube to the testing lab. The computer-generated number and your Surname, i.e. Smith, Glennon, Rothschild is the only information about you that the testing facility will see. Once your test has been completed, the results of the Y-DNA or MtDNA (Mitochrondrial DNA is from the female side) will be entered in a secure database. A comparison between your specific genetic markers and those of others in the database will then be performed. If a genetic match is found between you and another person when you have ordered, paid for, and submitted both (or multiple) samples (you and a theoretical relative) you will be informed via email. If a genetic match is found between you and another individual who enters the library at some time in the future, both will be given the information that a potential match is in the database provided that BOTH of you have signed the Release Form. Only if both parties agree will contact information concerning the separate parties be made available to the other party. In this way, all persons in the database will have the right to decide if they want to contact their probable genetic match(es). Your unique number and your surname but no other information is all that the lab will be provided by Family Tree DNA. Only Family Tree DNA will have the ability to cross-reference your unique test kit number with the personal information you provided us in order to determine the names and contact information of family match(es). Privacy and confidentiality will be strictly maintained. =========== -----Original Message----- From: Carole S. Marie and all: I already have my kit number for my brother. FTDNA sent me my brother's kit number with my Order Confirmation. On our Ausburn DNA site, our Group Administrator wrote to Bennett Greenspan and asked him if it would be alright to share the Password and Log In with the rest of the members so we could see all that had participated and the results. Mr. Greenspan wrote him back and told him it was up to his discretion if he wanted to share the Log In and Password with the other members, so that is how I can log in and use the password on the Ausburn DNA site. As it is now, we cannot see who has participated in the DNA Project. CAROLE, thanks. will work on this. There is a PRIVATE (our now) and PUBLISH (okayed by submitter) PAGES. mite try that on mine and yours and see what happens. wrote a couple letters tonite for more info. Don't know if I signed a Release form when signed up? maybe comes later? I did find some FAMILY SURNAME pages showing charts, etc. and have read some on HOW they do = another release form for their site. WE do Want sharing, but, must be okayed by submitter. OR we still don't have the info. I can't SEE the everyone to ADM site working = ALL info can be changed from there??? The Other Surname pages I have read don't use, they look good, can be shared, but, must be approved by sender. MOST will want to share? ITS just a matter of how to set it up legally. here's a note = GROUP SURNAMES DNA = 4. Group Status: Public or Private Groups Status is either Public or Private, which are described below. The information below assumes that the participant signed the release form. If the release form was not signed, then the individual does not participate in the Find command. Private: When a Group is established, the default setting is Private. The Private setting means that your participants are not included in the Family Tree DNA Results database and when one attempts to FIND connections they will be limited to people in their surname project. A Find by anyone who is not part of the Group will also not show any results for the Group. (this REO I believe comes up later after we have results, etc, msh) When members of the Group SEARCH the Database of Recent Ethnic Origins (REO) they search the entire REO, since it's an anonymous search. A Group can be set as Private, and an individual(s) within the Group can be set as Public. The Group will function as Private, and the individual will function as Public. Public: A Group status of Public means that the group participants will be matched against every person in the database regardless of surname group status. If your DNA is very common and you have ordered the 12 marker test you will potentially receive several matches to people with different surnames. It is recommended that Group Status be set as Private until the Surname study is completed at which time the group 'flag' should be set to Public. The Find command will show the name and email address for those who match. It is possible to set a single person from within a group to Public. This is designed for the person who matches no one from within your project. ======== keep it touch and ALL info appreciated. marie, iowa -----Original Message----- From: Carole S.
