On the 1880 Census for Burke County/Mitchell County Census in the Toe River District lists the following: Pink Sellers head of household b. 1849 born in NC Susan Sellers wife b. 1852 born in NC (she went by the name Sulkie sometimes) Hattie (female b. 1873) born in NC Mary E. (female b. 1875) born in NC Jane D. (female b. 1878) born in NC died 4-09-1946 Jane D. which went by the name of Deppie was my gg-grandmother. She was given to a Norman family when she was a child (I have been told that Pink and Susan were poor and could not afford to raise another child) Deppie married Mack (Mcbrown) Pitman b. 1878 d. 9-06-1960, they had 9 children. I have been told that Pink was a popular name in that era, probably short for Pinkney or Pickney. I have not been able to find Pink or Susan on any other census, death records, birth records, etc. They seemed to have disappeared after the 1880 census. And the fact that most early records for that area were destroyed by fire doesnt help either. Any informatin would be helpful and appreciated. Thanks, Deena
