I went to the Indy library today and went through some Harrison County, Indiana records and found the following will: Harrison Co., IN Will Book v. A., page 171 D. B. Sellers Will In the name of God Amen. I Daniel B. Sellers of the County of Harrison and State of Indiana being in a low state of health and being sound in mind, I do make my last will and testament. Know I first commit my soul in the hands of Almighty God and my body to the (durst?) to be decently buried. After all my just debts are paid, I give and bequeath to my sister Betsey, Dec'd her three children namely James, Delilah Jane and Robert W. Meek ten dollars each to be percured for them untell they becom their own agents and the remainder of my property I give into the hands of my father James Sellers for to improve or dispose until his death and then to be equally divided amongst my Brothers and Sisters. Signed, Sealed and Delivered in the presence of these Witness this day and date October the 3d, 1829 Daniel B. Sellers Attest: David Gunn Absalom A. Sellers Delilah Davis Probated March 1st, 1830. The probate book also mention that James Sellers was named the executor and Absalom A. Sellers as his security. Jim Sellars
I've changed the Subject line on this as it seems to be taking on a much needed life of its own. This is a great find and appears to possibly identify Daniel B. Sellers and Elizabeth "Betsey" (Sellers) Meek as two more children of James Sellers of VA - Harrison Co., IN - Lee Co. IA. Absalom and Delilah (Sellers) Davis signing as witnesses really helps! Do we have access to or a record of James' death in Lee county, IA between 1840 & 1850 and/or a way to see if he, too, left a will? I don't think the existence of a will for James will do anything to prove whether he is/was the James Sellers of Rockingham county, VA, but it certainly wouldn't hurt in the garnering of info for him. James' wife, her name still unknown to me, appears to have been living as well in Lee county, IA, per the 1840 Census. I show/see a 1796 marriage of "James Sellars to Barbara White" in Rockingham county, VA, which would certainly fit the subsequent birth of daughter Phoebe (Sellers) Nance in 1798. Would be beneficial if we could find/uncover something about James and wife in Lee county, IA during the 1840s that may or may not show that they are the same "James Sellars and Barbara White" of Rockingham county, VA. Again, great find, Jim, and I'm anxious to see what more we might be able to find concerning James and family and whether we can place their start (or not) in Rockingham county, VA.
