    1. [SELLERS] James Sellers, Harrison County, IN
    2. I did a search of the land records of Harrison County, IN and found the following information (and the name of James' wife): Harrison County, Indiana Deeds: 20 Jan 1830 - David W. Masselman to Absalom A. Sellers, lot in town of Lanesville, bk F, p.412. 14 Dec 1814 (recorded 1831) - Grant from U.S. President to James Sellers assignee of William Nance, 160 acres, bk F, p.480 24 Nov 1830 - James Armstrong to Absalom A. Sellers, lot in town of Lanesville, bk G, p.30 27 Oct 1832 - William Wright to James Sellers, lot in town of Lanesville, bk G, p.313 1 Oct 1832 - Absalom A. Sellers to Luke Coon, lot in town of Lanesville, bk G, p.464 10 Sep 1834 - Absalom A. Sellers to William Sampson, lot in town of Lanesville, bk H, p.240 18 Apr 1838 - James Sellers and wife, Barbary Sellers, to St. Clair Young, 160 acres, bk L, p.24 I also searched the marriages records, but they didn't have anything else other than who was married and dates, though some were different. Absalom Sellers to Jane Harberson, 25 Oct 1830 (I have seen 30 Oct before) Delilah Sellers to Edward Davis 6 Jan 1820 (some have it as 1821, though this marriage is recorded among other 1821 bonds.) The Barbara White who married James Sellers in 1796 (Rockingham) was the daughter of Christian White according to a book on Rockingham County. I have seen some posts that show that William Nance of Harrison Co., IN who assigned land to James Sellers was from Rockingham Co., VA. So there are the clues... Jim Sellars

    3. Jim, As usual ... wow ... fantastic info that certainly sheds much needed light on this line. The record of "James Sellers and wife Barbary Sellers" in 1838 certainly seems to point to the 1796 Rockingham county, VA, marriage record of "James Sellers to Barbara White". Additional info for the 1796 marriage for James and Barbara, and the following was noted: Rockingham county, Virginia James Sellers & Barbara White - 1796 Bondsman: Christian WELT (Ger.) Barbara is daughter of Christian The listing of Christian's surname as "WELT" in the marriage record is/was an obvious typo. The name "W-E-I-T" in German (with an I) became WHITE in English just as WEITZEL became WHITESEL, etc. This would appear to agree with what you stated that Barbara was the daughter of Christian, and this certainly puts them in Rockingham county, Virginia. Great find as well with the Dec. 14, 1814, Land Grant by James Sellers in Harrison county. James Sellers of Rockingham county appears on 1810 census but not on 1820. If this is the same James, the 1814 Land Grant appears to show why James was on 1810 VA census and not on 1820. I'm still working on which line of Sellers this James may have belonged to in descending from Heinrich Zeller. Frank Sellers in 1984 theorized that James may have been surviving son of Heinrich Zeller, Jr. Mary Arrington in 1986 offered that James may have instead been a son of Michael Sellers of Smith's Creek area of Rockingham county. Her bit of info and slight explanation/reasoning appears to offer the best possibility or scenario. Michael named a son Andrew and the name "Absalom" appeared in Andrew's line as Silem, Silom, or Salom. May be a coincidence but James' children named Absalom, Andrew, Delilah, etc. appear to agree more with James being a son of Michael's rather than Heinrich Zeller, Jr., that is assuming that Heinrich, Jr. did indeed exist. I have possible source(s) to Tax Lists for Rockingham county for 1787 - about 1799. Will hunt for James during these years and see if I get lucky and find him and/or see if someone is charged with paying the tax besides him. Might clue me/us in to his correct father.
