Cletus Robertus A. Sellers was born March 7, 1866, to Daniel Sellers and Barbara C. KEPLINGER. Cletus was the 3rd of 9 children born to Daniel and Barbara. He died August 5, 1943, of a heart attack in What Cheer, Keokuk County, Iowa. Cletus married Mary Ellen KNUPP on September 18, 1887, in Rockingham County, VA. Mary was born February 28, 1866, to William KNUPP and Anna FRANK. Cletus and Mary had at least 12 children in Rockingham county prior to migrating to Pleasant Township in Mahaska County, Iowa at some point between 1902 and July 1905. Cletus and Mary were listed on the 1900 census living in the Plains District of Rockingham county, VA. Their 12th child, Zimmenia Lotrecia Sellers, was born in R'ham county on January 27, 1902. Their 13th child, Iowa Virginia Sellers, was born in Pleasant Township, Mahaska county, IA, on July 1, 1905. Their 14th and last known child, Zella Veneda Sellers, was born January 20, 1908, in Pleasant Township as well. Several of their children lived into the 1990s. Zella was the last surviving member when she died February 25, 2005, in Wright, Mahaska county, Iowa. The Jacob Bryan Sellers that was mentioned was the 8th child of Cletus Robertus A. Sellers and Mary Ellen KNUPP. Jacob was born March 17, 1897, in Rockingham county, VA, and died Dec. 16, 1983, in Delta, Keokuk county, IA. Cletus Sellers' lines extend back to Heinrich Zeller (Aug. 17, 1704 - ca 1773) in Rockingham county, VA. Cletus' father was Daniel Sellers (June 16, 1831 - Oct 1 1892). Cletus' grandfather was John Sellers (Oct 19, 1790 - Mar 2, 1867). Cletus' great grandfather was Conrad Sellers (born ? - died circa 1808) Cletus' great-great grandfather was Peter Sellers, Sr. (abt 1733 - August 1809) Cletus' great-great-great grandfather was Heinrich Zeller (Aug. 17, 1704 - ca 1773). Cletus' was a 4th cousin 3 times removed to me as his Sellers line ran parallel to mine. Good info to have about Zella in terms of her death "in a nursing home in Albia, Iowa". Zella was first married to Clark RANKIN (May 17, 1882 - Sept. 3, 1947) on June 9, 1943. Clark was the s/o Wesley and Martha (Maddy) Rankin. Zella was married second to Ralph HATCHER (March 15, 1890 - July 24, 1976) on Sept. 7, 1957. Ralph was the s/o Albert L. and Edna Jane (Lippard) Hatcher. SSDI info for Zella Hatcher shows the following: Birth: 20 Jan 1908 Death: 28 Feb 2005 SS# Issued: Iowa Death Residence Localities: Zip Code: 52577 Localities: Evans, Mahaska, Iowa Keomah, Mahaska, Iowa Oskaloosa, Mahaska, Iowa Wright, Mahaska, Iowa According to Mary Arrington in her book "Cradled by the Massanutten", Zella's parents, Cletus Robertus A. and Mary Ellen (Knupp) Sellers, are buried in the Springfield Cemetery near Delta, Iowa. Arrington also wrote that 12 of the 14 children born to Cletus and Mary Ellen were indeed born in Rockingham county, VA, in the Malvern area. Cletus moved the family in Dec. 1904 to Iowa.
