In 1830 there was a Ute Sherrill listed on the Haywood Co., NC census. He is younger and has a wife and 3 children: Ute Sherrill 1 m 30 to und. 40; 1 f 0 to und. 5, 12 f 5 to und. 10, 1 f 30 to under 40. There was also a Ute Sherrill who married Issabelae (Isabella) Enloe 16 Aug 1829 Haywood Co., NC. I think that the Ute Sherrill who Elizabeth Thompson married 3 Jul 1831 Macon Co.,NC is the much older one(may have grown children and grandchildren at that time): 1830 Macon Co., NC census p. 7A Ute Sherrell 1 m 70 to und. 80. Elizabeth Thompson would have been about 55 at the tiem she married him. This may be the same Ute Sherrill who appears on the 1790 and 1800 Burke Co., NC censuses. N C State Archives has some estate records indexed by county on their site (not all counties listed): ah.dcr.state.nc.us/archives/FindingAids/Macon.htm. List Ute Sherrill estate records 1840. Probably died early in the year prior to the census being enumerated. There are a few Sellers estate records listed for Macon also, but all later than the Sellers you are searching for: Sellers, J. A. 1860 George N. 1871 L. R. 1893 Mary B. 1909 Phil 1909 If you see any you find interesting, you will have to write the NC Archives in Raleigh for the actual packet. I found Elizabeth Thompson Sherril listed as E. Sherril on the 1860 Jackson Co., NC (Webster Twp.) census, head, living with her brother N. B (Nathan B.) Thompson. They are still there in 1870, now listed in Qualla Town Twp (this is by the Cherokee Reservation. I think I noticed that Nathan Thompson the father is buried at Soco - (Soco Gap which runs down the mountain from old Haywood/Macon Co land into the Cherokee Reservation as it is today) Elizabeth still listed as head of household, now 84, with her brother N. B. Thompson, 75 and a hired man doing farm work. I don't find either one of them in Jackson, or adjacent counties by 1880. If you don't have this census info I can abstract it. 3. Dear Charmaine, Yes, Elizabeth Thompson married late and the Ute Sherill she married was the much older one in the census. Interesting that you also found a Ute Sherill who md. an Enloe as Thomas Thompson md. an Enloe also. Yes, it has been said that Nathan Thompson was bd. at Soco. I didn´t know it was next to the Cherokee reservation. Some of the Thompson descendants tried to claim "Indian money" via Esther Black (her father, Thomas Black was claimed to be part Cherokee). The claims were denied and I am not sure they were true either. I had not seen the Ute Sherrill estate reference. I only recently confirmed that my Jane was the daughter of Esther Black and Nathan Thompson so I need to look more into the collateral families as it is possible that if Mr. Sellers died prior to 1840, that Jane and family were living with relatives. Thank you so much!
