    3. CAROL, will forward on to SELLERS GROUP for help, ideas. Thanks for sharing ideas. It will help ALL working in this area and hopefully get others ideas also. I am sorry I don't have time to delve into this right now, but, will save and study, and add to your info. Thank you. marie, iowa -----Original Message----- From: Carol Herbert [mailto:carolherbert@sbcglobal.net] Sent: Monday, July 20, 2009 12:54 PM To: mari@netins.net; Jack Sellers Cc: Katherine Kyle; paul kyle Subject: Bejamin Sellers of Johnston County Benjamin Sellers (1) Benjamin Sellers (1) of Johnston County, North Carolina, is to be distinguished from the two Bejamin Sellers of Chowan, Bertie, Edgecomb, and Northampton Counties in North Carolina who are descendants of the Virginia immigrant William Sellers. Benjamin Sellers of Johnston County received by land grant from the Sate of North Carolina 150 acres in 1782 and 200 acres in 1778. He sold the 150 acres in 1784 to Brian Medlin and the 200 acres in 1782 to John Whitley. He was probably born circa 1750-1760. He served in the Revolutionary War. He and Sampson are listed in the Militia from Johnston County in 1784. He is on the first Johnston County Census and tax list, dated 1784-87. In his household are 1 M 21-60 (1724-66) and 7 Females. He may have sold this land earlier to support this family. He is not recorded as paying any taxes or owning land on the 1784 tax list. Benjamin (1) appears in no more census records, tax lists, or land transactions that I have found. Although his wife is not mentioned in any of the land transactions, "Cuzzy" Sellers appears as head of a household in 1810 Johnston County, Assuming she was the approximate age of Benjamin, she would have been born 1750-1760, therefore being over 45 in 1810. Cuzzy's household shows 1 F over 45 (b. before 1755), 1 F 26-45(b. 1784-1794, 2 F under 10(b. 1800-1810), and 1 M 16-26 (b. 1784-1794). This appears to be Benjamin's(1) wife, a son born between 1784 and 1794, a daughter or daughter-in-law born between 1784 and 1794 and her two daughters. This is probably a son and his wife and their two daughters, Cuzzy's granddaughters. One of the reasons I assume Cuzzy is Benjamin's wife is that all the other Sellers who have appeared in Johnston County have either identified wives or they have moved to other areas of the state with a wife. The only exception to that may be George Sellers, if the Johnston County George is not the George in Cumberland County in 1810 with a wife. Benjamin Sellers (2) Benjamin (2) appears by name in Johnston County in the Johnston County North Carolina Militia in the War of 1812, along with John Sellers, Second Regiment, Eighth Company, detached from the Johnston Regiment.. He married Sally Taylor 5 August 1820 with Adin Powell as bondsman. George Sellers paid poll tax in Capt. Adin Powells District during the years 1802-1805. Benjamin(2) does not appear in the 1820 Census. However, he is in the 1830 Johnston County Census: 1 M 40-50 (b. 1780-1790) dates that are consistent with Benjamin (2), 1M under 5 (b. 1825-1830), 1 F 30-40 (Sally, b. 1790-1800), 2 F 5-10 (b. 1820-1825), 2 F under 5 (b. 1825-1830). Benjamin(2) is also in the 1840 Census: 1 M 50-60 (b. 1780-1790), 1 M. 10-15 (1825-1830), 1 M under 5- 10 (b. 1830-35), 2 M under 5 (b. 1835-1840), 1 F 40-50 (Sally b. 1790-1800), 2 F 10-15 (1825-1830), 2 F 5-10 (b. 1830-1835), 1 F under 5 (b. 1835-1840). The two females shown in the 1830 Census b. 1820-25 are no longer in the household. Are their marriages in Johnston County for two Sellers' girls between 1835-1840? Benjamin (2) appears in the following Johnston County Tax lists: Capt Alfred Whitley's District 1813, Capt. William H. Guys District 1816, in Capt. Daniel Boons District in 1817, 1818, Capt. William Braddys District in 1819. Benjamin(2) witnesses two deeds from Powell's to Stephens in 1820, and in 1823 he witnessed an estate transaction by William Pilkinton in the Estate of Joseph Edwards. He is clearly in Johnston County during these years even though he does not appear in the 1820 Census. He appears in no more Census records or tax lists that I have seen after 1840. There are only two appearances of Benjamin(2) in Johnston County records after 1840: 1. 16 May 1855 Richard W. Sellers marries Elizabeth Hedgepeth at Benjamin Sellers's, performed by William H. Sellers J.P. 2. Mortality Record August, 1870: Benjamin Sellers dies in Selma, North Carolina (where Daniel and Alsey live in 1870) , b. "ca 1780," 90 years old, WM, cancer. >From the above, I conclude that Benjamin is the son of Cuzzy (appearing in her household before he joins the Milita) who is the Wife probably of Benjamin (1) or possibly of George Sellers. I also conclude on the basis of dates and physical proximity that Benjamin and George are brothers, sons of Benjamin (1). I will tie this together in my analysis of relationships after a close examination of Cuzzy's huosehold from her first appearance in the Census records in 1810.
