Marie, On the page you referenced at http://www.sellers-sellars-sollars-zellars.net/ilchamp.htm there is a listing of names that appear to have been referred to in the will of Marcus De Lafayette Sellers. In looking at the names, two pop up as eye openers that I believe go a long way in proving that Marcus' father was indeed a Sellers and that his father was a son of James Sellers and Barbara White. The two names listed were "Betts, Deliah" and McBee, Iona". I am positive that this was Delilah (Sellers) Betts and Iowa (Sellers) McBee. Delilah and Iowa were the two youngest daughters of Rev. Absalom Alexander Sellers and wife Jane Harberson/Harbison. In turn, Rev. A. A. Sellers was a son of James Sellers and Barbara White. Delilah was born in June 1849 in Lee County, Iowa, and had married John S. Betts on Jan. 27, 1867, in Lecompton, Douglas County, Kansas. She died in 1917 in Jefferson County, KS. Iowa was born in April 1854 in Lee County, Iowa, and had married John S. McBee on Nov. 29, 1871, in Jefferson Co., KS. She died on August 10, 1925, in Topeka, Shawnee Co., KS. Delilah's and Iowa's parents, Rev. Absalom Alexander Sellers and Jane Harberson/Harbison were married October 30, 1830, in Harrison County, Indiana. Rev. A. A. Sellers and his own parents, James Sellers and Barbara White, remained in Harrison County, IN, until about 1837 when they all removed to Lee County, Iowa. What are the chances of Marcus referencing these two Sellers sisters in his will totally by chance if he wasn't related to them? I think he referenced them because they were his cousins and that their respective fathers were brothers. I just really can't see Marcus referencing Delilah (Sellers) Betts and her sister, Iowa (Sellers) McBee for any other reason than they were kin. The question still remains, what was the name of Marcus' father? I checked the old newspapers today and added to our Champaign Co., IL page. (Picture also) I may go thro a few more with dates sent to us and see if I can find his will or something. A sister Barbara, from memory. May prove to benefit. http://www.sellers-sellars-sollars-zellars.net/ilchamp.htm marie, iowa -----Original Message----- From: sellers-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:sellers-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Michael Sellers Sent: Wednesday, December 02, 2009 11:49 AM To: SELLERS@rootsweb.com Subject: [SELLERS] Marcus De Lafayette Sellers In October 2006 there was discussion of Marcus De Lafayette Sellers (M.D.L. Sellers) and wife Rebecca James. In the string at http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/SELLERS/2006-10/1160797305 it was stated that we needed the Obituary and/or Will of Marcus in order to further try and determine his lineage. In following the discussion thread, I do not see that the Obit and/or Will was pulled and posted. Did I miss it or are we still missing these items for Marcus? I have an online copy of his Death Certificate in Texas, and it was understandably blank concerning the names of his parents. Marcus had moved from Champaign Co., IL, to San Antonio, Bexar Co., Texas, at about age 94 in 1921. He died in San Antonio on March 2, 1925, at the age of "97 years, 22 days". His body was sent back to Urbana, Champaign Co., IL, for burial. Marcus' mother was Keturah Ann Ransdall. She was first married to Marcus father, a Sellers, prior to marrying David Leedy on Dec. 21, 1829, in Harrison Co., IN, when Marcus was nearly 2 years old. I am trying to determine the name of Marcus' father. I think it is an excellent possibility that Marcus' father was a son of James Sellers and Barbara White. James Sellers and Barbara White were married November 8, 1796, in Rockingham Co., VA, before migrating to Harrison Co., IN, by 1820. There are several Sellers marriages in Harrison County, IN, in the 1820s that involved James' and Barbara's children. Since Marcus was born in Harrison Co., IN, in 1828, I think it heightens the possibility that James and Barbara (White) Sellers were his grandparents. The obituary for one of their daughters, Delilah (Sellers) Nance, in 1892 confirmed that James and Barbara were the parents of 8 children; 4 boys and 4 girls. I have been able to positively identify 6 but am missing one daughter and one son. If we've pulled Marcus' obituary and/or his will, could you please direct me to where we have it posted in the Sellers records and/or discussion? If we haven't, what can we do to get a copy of these items for Marcus? I'm in hopes that the Obituary will lend some clues as to the name of Marcus' father. Thanks!
