Marie, can you or anybody else in the group explain to me how the Y-DNA37+mtDNA will help me in my search for a match to my Y-DNA-12?? I will appreciate any and all explanations. Edgar, Not sure I have a definitive answer but since I upgraded my 12 marker to 37 and then to 67, I matched 4 new "cousins" - two Sellers and two non-Sellers who know they somehow descend from my line of Sellers back in the early 1800's. This also opened up new counties in North Carolina that I previously had no reason to investigate. It did prove the relationship between my ancestor and his brother and has opened new opportunities for research in the other matches. Also, from a common sense standpoint, I think of the 12 marker test less as a way of proving you are kin to someone and more of a way to prove you are not. In other words, if you don't match exactly on the 12 marker test, or perhaps off on one marker, I think it is unlikely you will find a common ancestor in the last few hundred years. Only by extending it to further markers will you be able to better prove or disprove the relationship. One of my closest Sellers genealogy researchers was 100% sure of her family's connection to my Gurley Sellers line (Nash Co. NC - 1802) and had done extensive professional research in Nash Co to prove it. But her brother's test came back and we were way off from each other making it very unlikely that we are blood descendents from a common ancestor. She may descend from a female Sellers who carried on the Sellers name as an example but this will be hard to prove. Hope this makes sense and is helpful, Jack Sellers (Gurley Sellers Nash Co. NC to Jefferson Co. AL 1802-1898) ---------- At 10:35 PM 6/24/2009, you wrote: >Marie, can you or anybody else in the group explain to me how the >Y-DNA37+mtDNA will help me in my search for a match to my Y-DNA-12?? >I will appreciate any and all explanations. >Thanks, Edgar Sellers > > > Dear Sellers Group > > > > In the last few days we have received several e-mails from group > > administrators asking us to extend our "Unparalleled 50% Promotional > > Discount" Y-DNA37+mtDNA for $119 (the regular project price is $248 - a > > reduction of more than 50%!!), as many people are only now becoming > > aware of the promotion. > > > > We have decided, therefore, to extend it until June 30th, 2009. Hello Everyone, I was wondering, if a female who was a Sellers had children but never married their father's and gave them the Sellers name, because their was no marriage...How would this affect the DNA testing process? Sincerely, Sabrina
SABRINA, they would have their fathers dna. Whoever he is. Good explanation, Jack. 12 marker tests can be considered a means to "sort the wheat from the chaff" and the next step can be to upgrade to 37 or more. It doesn´t cost much more to do it in 2 steps or even 3 and if one is disappointed somehow, by not matching the line one thought one matched, the expense is less, in just doing a 12 marker test to being with and proceeding from there. -----Oprindelig meddelelse----- Fra: sellers-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:sellers-bounces@rootsweb.com] På vegne af Jack Sellers Sendt: 25. juni 2009 17:14 Til: edgar sellers; sellers@rootsweb.com Emne: Re: [SELLERS] Y-DNA37+mtDNA for $119 extended to June 30th, 2009 Edgar, Not sure I have a definitive answer but since I upgraded my 12 marker to 37 and then to 67, I matched 4 new "cousins" - two Sellers and two non-Sellers who know they somehow descend from my line of Sellers back in the early 1800's. EDGAR, thanks. I believe it is a good test, esp now at 119 and the 37 markers give you Much more to go on. You are one marker off from Richard Zeller, related to Jacob Zellers from Lancaster?, PA. I see NO paper trail connecting you and he hasn't done the 37 marker test, which he should. If he did and you still match, its very likely you are related and we have to find out how.
