Edgar, Not sure I have a definitive answer but since I upgraded my 12 marker to 37 and then to 67, I matched 4 new "cousins" - two Sellers and two non-Sellers who know they somehow descend from my line of Sellers back in the early 1800's. This also opened up new counties in North Carolina that I previously had no reason to investigate. It did prove the relationship between my ancestor and his brother and has opened new opportunities for research in the other matches. Also, from a common sense standpoint, I think of the 12 marker test less as a way of proving you are kin to someone and more of a way to prove you are not. In other words, if you don't match exactly on the 12 marker test, or perhaps off on one marker, I think it is unlikely you will find a common ancestor in the last few hundred years. Only by extending it to further markers will you be able to better prove or disprove the relationship. One of my closest Sellers genealogy researchers was 100% sure of her family's connection to my Gurley Sellers line (Nash Co. NC - 1802) and had done extensive professional research in Nash Co to prove it. But her brother's test came back and we were way off from each other making it very unlikely that we are blood descendents from a common ancestor. She may descend from a female Sellers who carried on the Sellers name as an example but this will be hard to prove. Hope this makes sense and is helpful, Jack Sellers (Gurley Sellers Nash Co. NC to Jefferson Co. AL 1802-1898) ---------- At 10:35 PM 6/24/2009, you wrote: >Marie, can you or anybody else in the group explain to me how the >Y-DNA37+mtDNA will help me in my search for a match to my Y-DNA-12?? >I will appreciate any and all explanations. >Thanks, Edgar Sellers > > > Dear Sellers Group > > > > In the last few days we have received several e-mails from group > > administrators asking us to extend our "Unparalleled 50% Promotional > > Discount" Y-DNA37+mtDNA for $119 (the regular project price is $248 - a > > reduction of more than 50%!!), as many people are only now becoming > > aware of the promotion. > > > > We have decided, therefore, to extend it until June 30th, 2009. Marie, can you or anybody else in the group explain to me how the Y-DNA37+mtDNA will help me in my search for a match to my Y-DNA-12?? I will appreciate any and all explanations. Dear Sellers Group In the last few days we have received several e-mails from group administrators asking us to extend our "Unparalleled 50% Promotional Discount" Y-DNA37+mtDNA for $119 (the regular project price is $248 - a reduction of more than 50%!!), as many people are only now becoming aware of the promotion. We have decided, therefore, to extend it until June 30th, 2009. Kits must be paid by July 7, 2009. In order for the most people take advantage of this promotion, we encourage you to post the following link in your family messages boards, blogs, and mail lists, as well as forward to people when they ask you where to place the order: <http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Sellers&Code=!*JOINC ODE> www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Sellers&Code=B24965 For those projects that require a "Join Request", please be sure to reply to the prospective test candidate in time for him to order at the promotional price. As always, that you for your continued support. Max Blankfeld Vice-President, Operations and Marketing http://www.FamilyTreeDNA.com "History Unearthed Daily"

This is the best I can do as to tracking down someone who represents my Sellers line as I can´t seem to get a hold on any other contemporary male Sellers´from my line, though one would think there were more. The line is: James Sellers (thought to be son of John Sellers + Margaret UNK, NC) b. abt 1796 Haywood CO., NC + Jane Thompson b. 1797 Rutherford Co. NC > Nathan B. Everything I've accumulated about my Sellers side has come from Ancestry.com. Even the pictures and such that came my way after my dad passed on, pretty much dealt with the Butler side, although there is a very old photo of my great-grandmother, Minnie Lowry Butler, with her mother, Eliza Sellers Lowry (the family tree quit branching a bit right around then; my grandparents were 2nd cousins!). I have no written documentation of anything. I was born and raised in Toledo; my grandparents moved up to Toledo when my dad and my aunt were quite small. My great-uncle, my grandmother's brother Howard Butler, moved up here too; but the rest of them all stayed down in the Lima area. We knew a little about the Butler side, but we were just plain never told anything about the Sellers family history! I have no clue why, and there aren't too many people left to ask anymore. There's my aunt, Ginny Sellers Evans, who lives in Tennessee now; but my dad passed away in September of 2003. I don't know if my brother might have anything more in the way of family history documents ... yes, I have a brother, Will. I had no children. He has one daughter, no sons. Maybe I could talk him into the DNA test, but I can guarantee someone else would have to pay for it! Is that possible?? He hasn't been working much (and I've been laid off since January). But I digress ... this is all that Ancestry.com has given me on John Leonard[1782] and his siblings (you may well already have this info, but just to make sure): Michael Sellers (1780-1832) George Sellers (1781-1842) John Leonard Sellers (1782-1860) Samuel Sellers (1787-1855) Mary Magdalena Sellers (1791-1873) The gaps between the younger ones are obvious. There's got to be more of them, although who knows how many didn't make it to adulthood. My line came to Ohio in the mid-1800's sometime from Bucks Co PA and other areas around Philadelphia, but unfortunately I'm not in touch with anyone there. But if there's anything else at all that you need from me, just let me know. Roger, thanks so much for your reply! I did send you an offlist email; please let me know if you received it. - Shari

Hello! My name is Shari (Sharon) Sellers Stowell, in Toledo OH. I just recently started tracing my family tree, with emphasis on my dad's side, since my dad and grandparents told us almost nothing about that side of the family beyond my grandparents. With the help of Ancestry.com, I was able to get them back to Germany in the 1600's before the trail dissolved. When they came to Ohio from the rural area around Philadelphia in the early 1800's, they settled in Allen and Auglaize counties (and richly populated the countryside!). I narrowed a large number of them down to four cemeteries along the county line (including both sets of paternal grandparents; my paternal grandmother was a Butler with Sellers married into her line). Yesterday I traveled down there to "meet" them all. This was a wonderful trip, and I was able to find nearly all of them, including the ones who first came to Ohio. I took pictures of everyone, so please email me if you'd like photo files. However! , I was not able to locate Barton-Stevenson cemetery. According to information entered 10 years ago on a site belonging to one of my dad's 3rd cousins, my great-great grandparents, Samuel and Eliza (Barton) Sellers, are at that cemetery. This is an old, abandoned small family plot, described as "well-hidden", and they're not kiddin'! There are no paths leading back to the wooded area where the cemetery is hidden, and it's not visible from any road in the immediate area. Is anyone here in the Allen-Auglaize county-line area, and would you happen to know how to find this?? Please feel free to email me offlist or onlist. If you have questions about my line, I'll try to help. sstowell@buckeye-express.com Thanks! - Shari Stowell (Billy H. Sellers, Elza E. However, I was not able to locate Barton-Stevenson cemetery. Each person needs to send their chart, so we can follow it and several/most have done this. We canNot link anyone till Proven. Just the proven test matches to those families. Kinda like now, but a Link to that group family. Then I need to manually post these names and charts to that link. I have been thinking of this, just need time to experiment. AND each time we have new results, they send me a new chart, which would NOT have our old links in it. SO, redo each, everytime?? I may be able to work around this, by just extracting the one or two new results and try pasting them into the old excel sheet, which has our links to group pages. But, sometimes, they upgrade haplo's and I may not catch if I didn't repost complete chart. Must study more, but, I would like a link to family groups that match. Been thinking, but, not doing on it. The Ross site is an example of what I´m thinking of, though not sure how the administrator did that. I´ve tried grouping our Bonham site and it´s not easy. Just a suggestion.
