    1. Re: [SELLERS] DNA MATCH
    2. Richard White
    3. My closest male Sellars ancestor was my great grandfather, so I cannot participate in the surname study but I have done the complete DNA study... Y-DNA, mt-DNA, and DNA Print (recent ethnic origins). Basically, if you give them permission to do so Family Tree DNA gives you the e-mail addresses of people who are matches... and gives your e-mail address to them. At this time I am the ONLY male in their database with my specific Y-DNA and there are few that are even close... All that *seems* clear at this point is that my male line is Northern European, my female line is probably Ashkenazi, and that by their best estimate I am 13% Native American. While the Y-DNA & mt-DNA results are quite specific and exact, however, the DNA Print is an interpretation and a 13% result is well within the range of inexactitude of the capabilities of the testing at this time. I could be as little as 0% Native American... though I think not because my best guess from (admittedly vague) genealogical information was that I am about 12% Native American. I'm hoping that the accuracy range is narrowed as more people have such testing done. RW Carole S. Walker wrote: >Marie, I have a question. How will we know who to contact if we have a DNA >match? 3. ED, very good. Some of the SURNAME DNA sites use a small chart like this, linked back to their charts/info. NOW these would be listed under SELLERS dna page, with your kit number (no name, as I understand) AND a link to your chart sent from your tests. with your permission= release form. THESE appear to be complicated charts UNTIL you understand the readings AND it isn't FAST. AFTER learning the meanings, etc. WE can understand them,? I am SURE they will be helpful in the future AND necessary to our SELLERS/all spellings. will continue, marie, iowa -----Original Message----- From: EdSellers@aol.com [mailto:EdSellers@aol.com] Sent: Wednesday, October 15, 2003 10:24 PM To: SELLERS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [SELLERS] SELLERS/all variants/DNA tests Marie, I have ordered my kit and I think it would help if we (all dna members) would submit a very basic chart of our lineage. 3. CAROLE, thanks. will work on this. There is a PRIVATE (our now) and PUBLISH (okayed by submitter) PAGES. mite try that on mine and yours and see what happens. wrote a couple letters tonite for more info. Don't know if I signed a Release form when signed up? maybe comes later? I did find some FAMILY SURNAME pages showing charts, etc. and have read some on HOW they do = another release form for their site. WE do Want sharing, but, must be okayed by submitter. OR we still don't have the info. I can't SEE the everyone to ADM site working = ALL info can be changed from there??? The Other Surname pages I have read don't use, they look good, can be shared, but, must be approved by sender. MOST will want to share? ITS just a matter of how to set it up legally. here's a note = GROUP SURNAMES DNA = 4. Group Status: Public or Private Groups Status is either Public or Private, which are described below. The information below assumes that the participant signed the release form. If the release form was not signed, then the individual does not participate in the Find command. Private: When a Group is established, the default setting is Private. The Private setting means that your participants are not included in the Family Tree DNA Results database and when one attempts to FIND connections they will be limited to people in their surname project. A Find by anyone who is not part of the Group will also not show any results for the Group. (this REO I believe comes up later after we have results, etc, msh) When members of the Group SEARCH the Database of Recent Ethnic Origins (REO) they search the entire REO, since it's an anonymous search. A Group can be set as Private, and an individual(s) within the Group can be set as Public. The Group will function as Private, and the individual will function as Public. Public: A Group status of Public means that the group participants will be matched against every person in the database regardless of surname group status. If your DNA is very common and you have ordered the 12 marker test you will potentially receive several matches to people with different surnames. It is recommended that Group Status be set as Private until the Surname study is completed at which time the group 'flag' should be set to Public. The Find command will show the name and email address for those who match. It is possible to set a single person from within a group to Public. This is designed for the person who matches no one from within your project. ======== keep it touch and ALL info appreciated. marie, iowa -----Original Message----- From: Carole S. The computer-generated number and your Surname, i.e. Smith, Glennon, Rothschild is the only information about you that the testing facility will see.
