MABEL, give me your address and I'll send the three dollars and SASE out this noon. I also contacted the party connected to Delilah's chart, but, never rec'd a reply. My SELLERS came to Decatur Co., Ia in 1856 from Tipton/Madison Co., IN. Yes, Sellers/Sellars same, some changed the spelling. Who does your nephew connect to? We have or have had members connected to the Keokuk, IA SELLERS and the Lee Co., IA line that connects to Delilah back to Harrison Co., IN and appears Rockingham Co., VA, maybe immigrant Heinrich (memory). Does he do genealogy? or do you have his chart? would appreciate knowing his line. I believe my cousins Pearl Vanderwilt and Cindy Gray still live in Oskaloosa. My mothers side. The rent, utilities and other bills to maintain our library comes from members, books we sell, research and special fund raising. I have yet to prove Gurley's parents and continue to search for them. One thing of note for researchers in this line is that Jordan is the only one of the siblings that reports his parents birthplace in the 1880 census. He shows his father to be born in Virginia and mother in N.C. This disputes the record from the 1984 Sellers Letters where Charles Sellers reported Jordan and Gurley's father to be Antril Sellers from Ireland but still leaves many unanswered questions. I recently ran across another INDIANA Sellers: Abraham Sellers who names one of his daughters Delila. He was born in NC but I haven't found further details on him. I wonder if he could be one of Gurley and Jordan's brothers? Note he also has a son named Daniel. I've seen all the recent emails on Indiana and can't help but feel that there may be some connections with my line of Sellers but may just be coincidental. I've always wondered what brought Jordan to Indiana if not other family living there. If anyone has any background on this Abraham, I would appreciate the inputs. Jim, As usual ... wow ... fantastic info that certainly sheds much needed light on this line. The record of "James Sellers and wife Barbary Sellers" in 1838 certainly seems to point to the 1796 Rockingham county, VA, marriage record of "James Sellers to Barbara White". Additional info for the 1796 marriage for James and Barbara, and the following was noted: Rockingham county, Virginia James Sellers & Barbara White - 1796 Bondsman: Christian WELT (Ger.) Barbara is daughter of Christian The listing of Christian's surname as "WELT" in the marriage record is/was an obvious typo. The name "W-E-I-T" in German (with an I) became WHITE in English just as WEITZEL became WHITESEL, etc. This would appear to agree with what you stated that Barbara was the daughter of Christian, and this certainly puts them in Rockingham county, Virginia. Great find as well with the Dec. 14, 1814, Land Grant by James Sellers in Harrison county. James Sellers of Rockingham county appears on 1810 census but not on 1820. If this is the same James, the 1814 Land Grant appears to show why James was on 1810 VA census and not on 1820. I'm still working on which line of Sellers this James may have belonged to in descending from Heinrich Zeller. Frank Sellers in 1984 theorized that James may have been surviving son of Heinrich Zeller, Jr. Mary Arrington in 1986 offered that James may have instead been a son of Michael Sellers of Smith's Creek area of Rockingham county. Her bit of info and slight explanation/reasoning appears to offer the best possibility or scenario. Michael named a son Andrew and the name "Absalom" appeared in Andrew's line as Silem, Silom, or Salom. May be a coincidence but James' children named Absalom, Andrew, Delilah, etc. appear to agree more with James being a son of Michael's rather than Heinrich Zeller, Jr., that is assuming that Heinrich, Jr. did indeed exist. I have possible source(s) to Tax Lists for Rockingham county for 1787 - about 1799. Will hunt for James during these years and see if I get lucky and find him and/or see if someone is charged with paying the tax besides him. Might clue me/us in to his correct father. I didn't see in IN or IL, ?? 10-30-1830 SELLERS EBSAMON married HARBERSON JANE , HARRISON CO, IN He still was living close OR came back and married this gal. 1836 IL, dau Jane born 1840 IL, son George born JUNE? 1840 LEE CO, IA ABSALOM SELLERS = A. SILLARD JAMES SELLERS A CW file on George H. 1840 IL may show birth place if borned before 1840 Census. Info on dau Jane may show birth place. But, really won't help pre 1820 IN. MEEK kids may help, but the ISAAC AND SYLVESTER MEEK in 1820 HARRISON CO, IN Seem to come from Brooke Co., West Virginia and Anne Arundel County, Maryland Didn't read their 1830 cenus and see who living with. What info do you have on the decendants of Absolom. You are getting kinda close to where I lose Grandfather, Harold A. Sellers. He was born October 6, 1902. His son Jack L. Sellers was born in 1946. Hi Nathan, Well, unfortunately, I'm just really piecing the descendants of Absalom together and don't have anything really documented so far. Absalom's father appears to have been James Sellers, and I've been trying to connect James back to Rockingham county, Virginia. If James does connect back to R'ham county, then he was likely the grandson of Heinrich Zeller, my 6 great grandfather. Going back in time has been my focus so far. I guess my "plan" has been to see whether or not James connects back to R'ham county and to Heinrich, and, if he does, then I would come forward in time and document the descendants. Sorry I don't have any info of use to you currently ... Hi Jim, Good catch with the Land Patent record. Absalom was always either "A. A. Sellers" or "Absalom A. Sellers" in the census records from what I've seen so far, so this would appear to be him. Looking at the map, Harrison county on south-southeastern border of Indiana while Vigo is on the western part of Indiana on IN-IL border. Looks like Vigo may indeed have been a stop over on the way to Iowa. Shame we can't go backwards in time and find father James somewhere and prove or disprove that he ties to Rockingham county, VA. Great find, Jim, and I'm sure this will help a lot. Marie, Jim, et al, I have not been able to determine why/how James Sellars left VA for Harrison county, IN. I have wondered if it was a "usual migration" or if he obtained Bounty Land, etc. James would've been about 40/50 years old at time of War of 1812. Could be he was too old to have fought, and therefore Bounty Land may not be a possibility. I have not located a "James Sellers" so far in land records for Harrison county, so that's not holding any clues so far either. Have appreciated the help and great info so far. I'm in hopes someone closer to the records than I can keep digging for us! Am in hopes as well that we can continue backwards from 1840 Lee county, IA, and 1830/1820 Harrison county, IN. I've changed the Subject line on this as it seems to be taking on a much needed life of its own. This is a great find and appears to possibly identify Daniel B. Sellers and Elizabeth "Betsey" (Sellers) Meek as two more children of James Sellers of VA - Harrison Co., IN - Lee Co. IA. Absalom and Delilah (Sellers) Davis signing as witnesses really helps! Do we have access to or a record of James' death in Lee county, IA between 1840 & 1850 and/or a way to see if he, too, left a will? I don't think the existence of a will for James will do anything to prove whether he is/was the James Sellers of Rockingham county, VA, but it certainly wouldn't hurt in the garnering of info for him. James' wife, her name still unknown to me, appears to have been living as well in Lee county, IA, per the 1840 Census. I show/see a 1796 marriage of "James Sellars to Barbara White" in Rockingham county, VA, which would certainly fit the subsequent birth of daughter Phoebe (Sellers) Nance in 1798. Would be beneficial if we could find/uncover something about James and wife in Lee county, IA during the 1840s that may or may not show that they are the same "James Sellars and Barbara White" of Rockingham county, VA. Again, great find, Jim, and I'm anxious to see what more we might be able to find concerning James and family and whether we can place their start (or not) in Rockingham county, VA.
