Last August (1998) Jim Rubins posted transcriptions of a bible he found at the Westchester Historical Society. One of the names was Arthena Seaman b. 12 Jan 1812, d. 18 Oct 1896, m. Joshua Tompkins. This past week, I was at Hillside Cemetery in Cortlandt Manor, NY looking for the graves of John Henry Depew and his wife Hannah. John's grandmother is Rebecca Seaman Jacobs, (daughter of David Jr.). I did not find headstones for John & Hannah, but found the family plot where they are supposed to be buried. In it was a headstone with John's daughter Mary and her husband and very near it was the headstone for Arthena & Joshua, a very NEW looking headstone.. as was Mary Depew & her husband, Benson See and on the other side that a new one for Woodbine Depew, a son of John Henry. Does this seem that there is a relationship between Arthena and the Depew family.. and I guess the new headstones must mean there is somebody out there preserving this family??? So how do I go about finding this person?? Check with local gravestone dealers? Would the cemetery give me the info?? Any body have any suggections?? Of course, none of this clicked until I was home going through old papers and re-reading them! Gee whiz, the plot thickens in my family search... I have a photo of the Seaman headstone if any one is interested. Judy Wolf
