Jane's maiden name was Wilson. She was born about December 1798 in New York City and died about 1888, in her 89th year, at Port Chester, New York. Jane was orphaned at about 15 years of age. Jacob and Jane were married at Rye, New York, on 06 May 1815, by Drake Wilson, a Baptist Clergyman. They had at least seven children, five of whom survived her. The five were Adeline M. Seaman (m. George Drummond), Henry P. Seaman, Hester A. Seaman (m. Thomas Halstead or Halsted), Ann Seaman (m. John Horton), and Sarah T. Seaman (m. ??? Curtis). Catherine and Eliza Seaman were probably two other children. Most of this information was obtained from War of 1812 Claim for Widows Pension records at the National Archives, Washington, DC, and two newspaper obituaries. I would appreciate any other information either earlier (especially) or later to fill in my records.

The server which handles the Seaman list has been having a few difficulties delivering mail because one of the other servers that does process work for it was having problems of its own. As a result, some mail has not been delivered and won't be delivered. The problem is now resolved but to check for all recent messages, especially those of you who get your mail in digest form, please go to the archives for all messages. http://archiver.rootsweb.com All the messages will be there. (If you have never used the archives, this might be a good opportunity to check them out--every message ever posted to the Seaman list, since 1997, is there.) Hi. I and several of my relatives are also researching the Seaman family in PA. One of my cousins who has been able to access a tremendous amount of libraries, books, and other places/documents responded to me with this information, which may/may not help others in their searches...... Mary There are many many others researching the Seaman line. Some appear to be decended from English families whose last name refelct their occupations. But a whole other line are German but originate out on Long Island. Now when the ERnglish Govenor of New York was faced with shiploads of Germans all arriving in 1714, he was affraid of an overthrow of the English rule. He indentured many up along the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers, but others were indentured and apprenticed out of the way on Long Island. One case in poin was the family of the famous Conrad WEiesser. If one parent died on the immigration or if the Govenor just felt the family was too large as in the Weisser case, some children were apprenticed out on Long Island. I wonder if that isn't where those Seamans come from. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <> Sent: Saturday, February 16, 2002 3:18 PM Subject: [SEAMAN-L] Re: SEAMAN family history in Orange Co., NY > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: SEAMAN > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/IYGBAIB/507.1.1.1.1.1 > > Message Board Post: > > Sorry, we do not have this SEAMAN family in our database. > > There were two lines of the Long Island SEAMAN family that moved to Orange County.
