I was told the scam originated in Nigeria. Apparently the Nigerian government cooperated with the United States to prosecute those responsible for the scam. However, now the e-mails are coming from South Africa.

I'll let you know in a few weeks.

Sarah SMITH, son of Caleb SEAMAN Jr. and Martha JACKSON. Best info I have to date. Any connection out there? By my unsupported records, this Samuel would have been the gg grandson of Capt. John. Many thanks for any input!
Marilyn, I don't work today so I will call the Dutchess Courthouse this morning and see if I can get a copy of Samuel's will. Thanks for the coded info. I have an ancestor Stephen Seaman who was married to a Lydia Delano at the New Hackensack Reformed Church. Samuel's will might help me also. I had been thinking that my Stephen was the son of Isaac, but I'm eager to investigate Samuel as a possible father. Kate

Ancestry.com has posted a database that has 383 SEAMAN family members listed: Gene Pool Individual Records http://www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/inddbs/4725a.htm A unique database containing 5 million genealogical records (20 million names) that were saved from destruction after being rejected from scientific studies. Millions of individual records were created from birth, marriage and death records; obituaries; probate records; books of remembrance; family histories; genealogies; family group sheets; pedigree charts; and other sources. This data covers the entire U.S. for a wide expanse of years.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/IYGBAIB/513.2.1 Message Board Post: Jim: Thank you for your reply. I have one other John Wesley Seaman in my direct line. He was born in 1888 and died 14 years later. I do have one child of John Wesley's that I have not been able to pin down -- I will follow up on your clue. Since my last posting I did receive Jane Elizabeth Seaman's death certificate (cause for great excitement). She was born in Roslyn, N. Hempstead, Queens Co., NY the daughter of Jacob Seaman and Elizabeth unknown Seaman (both born in NY). Elizabeth lived with John Wesley Seaman and family in the 1870 census. She was 64 at the time. She was dead by 1880. I have not located her (or Jacob) yet in 1860 in N. Hempstead, Hempstead or Oyster Bay Towns of Queens Co. I will continue to search the censuses. I also received John Wesley Seaman's death certificate. He is the son of Robert Seaman and Rachel unknown Seaman (Robert born in Roslyn, NY c. 1802). Altho Rachel is purported to have been born in NY (on the death cert.), two censuses list her as born in England. After Robert's death between 1865 and June 1870, Rachel lived with Angeline Seaman Stubbs. She was the daughter of John Rogers Seaman (s. of Nancy Rogers Seaman and Unknown Seaman) and Ann Smart Seaman. John Rogers Seaman was born in Roslyn, NY in 1800. Ann Smart Seaman (like Rachel) appears on different censuses with different points of origin -- sometimes NY, sometimes England. She was born in England in 1806. It could all be coincidence of geography and mutual respect among families, but I continue to follow these people's names for clues. Again, I put this on the board in case it is of use to anyone or in case it triggers a memory of something someone stumbled over accidentally. Thank you again Jim. Suzanne.

Family #1804 (Line 30) consisted of Henry Seaman and Elisci, while family #1805 (Line 32) consisted of Jacob seaman, Jane, and Sarah S. My conclusion, without positive proof, is that Elisci was Henry Seaman's wife and that they had no children, or at least none living with them. I am not convinced that Henry's age was 25. Perhaps 35? The entry is hard to distinguish between a 2 and a 3. That could have made him the same age as Elisci. Or maybe she was ten years older than he.

My Seaman line starts with Phebe Ann Seaman, Born May 27th 1823, married Robert Fenton, (Long Islander wedding announcement: "Fenton, Robert to Mary Ann Seaman at Hempstead Harbor" 22Ap42:34), died Died Aug.19th 1892 Stumbled across this will. Looking for help connecting Phebe Ann above. Thanks! John Another misc. piece we have collected is the will of David Seaman of Oyster Bay, NY Co Probate, L.21 pg 483, written 23 Mar 1759. In it he names his wife, Mary, his eldest son, David (not yet 25y), his other sons: Willits Seaman, Micah Seaman, Robert Seaman and Isaac Seaman; his daughters: Mary Seaman, Temperance Seaman, Rebeca Seaman, Abigal [sic] Seaman, Hannah Seaman, and Martha Seaman. He names his brother, Zebulon Seaman and his brother-in-law, Richard Willits and his couzen [sic], Williams Seaman, and his son, David Seaman, as executors. Codicil written 24 Mar 1759. Proved 25 Apr 1759. Now, as I have pointed out, this David is several generations ahead of the David, father of Phebe Ann, that we are looking for. But, keep it for reference. What I have found that is interesting is in 1880 an Abby Seaman is listed in the household of Smith Seaman: Census Place: Oyster Bay, Queens, New York Source: FHL Film 1254919 National Archives Film T9-0919 Page 423B Relation Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace Smith SEAMAN Self M M W 52 NY Occ: Farmer And Carpenter Fa: NY Mo: NY Mary SEAMAN Wife F M W 52 OH Occ: Keeping House Fa: CT Mo: OH Wm Henry SEAMAN Son M S W 23 NY Occ: Carpenter Fa: NY Mo: OH Edward SEAMAN Son M S W 17 NY Occ: Clk In Gen Store Fa: NY Mo: OH Howard S. If we follow either her backwards or Smith fowards we could find out if he is her brother, she is her mother. the next time I'm at Hofstra I will pull the Long Islander and make a copy of that wedding announcement for you: "Fenton, Robert to Mary Ann Seaman at Hempstead Harbor" 22Ap42:34 -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web - Check your email from the web at http://mail2web.com/ .
