I am looking for documentation on the parentage of William Seaman born bet. 1735 - 1740 probably in Hempstead, Long Island, NY and died in Washington Co., PA. He was a Quaker. We believe that his parents were Nathaniel Seaman and Sarah Powell, but have no documentation. Between 1760 and 1763 he married Amy (possibly Amelia) Disberry or Disbrowe who died before 1785 in NJ. I would also like any information on her. Carol

(That will help your fellow researchers to narrow down which century we should check as well as what state, etc.) Also let us know where you have already looked so that we don't give you suggestions that you have already explored. If you have sources for the data you already have, please share them with us, even if they are "family legends." If you also have names and dates for siblings, spouses, children or other family members, those can also be helpful to include in your message. The more information you can give the more likely that is to happen. Even though you may not find the exact answers to your own question, connecting with other researchers may result in giving you new leads for your own research.

I am looking for information on my great grandfather, Thurman H. SEAMAN. I've been told he was born in Schroom Village, Essex County, NY, but I have no date for his birth. He married Clara E. THOMAS Apr 1902. She was born 6 Oct 1879 in Viola, MO to James A. THOMAS and Betsy/Betty Bradley ROBINSON. They had three children, and since Thurman homesteaded in Union County, New Mexico, these children may have all been born there: Louis or Lewis SEAMAN born around 1910, Ethel SEAMAN born around 1913, and Clarence Manville SEAMAN born 10 Aug 1917 in Clayton, Union County, NM. Clara died 9 Apr 1924 and Thurman married Nellie BIGGS. They had four children: Stella Mae SEAMAN, Thurman SEAMAN, Leonard SEAMAN and Donald Leroy SEAMAN who was born 21 Sep 1934 in Clayton, NM and died 10 Aug 1943 in Clayton. Does anyone have any information on Thurman, or know who his parents and/or siblings were? I know he left New Mexico sometime after 1944, but don't know where he went or where or when he died. Any help will be greatly appreciated since I have hit a brick wall here. Hi, We have had lots of new members subscribe in the recent weeks so I thought I'd take a minute of your time to introduce myself, tell you what I'm currently working on, and finally to give us some reminders about posting mesages. My name is Carolyn Seaman and I'm a Seaman by marriage. However, I feel that as a result of the 20+ years of researching the descendants of Capt. John Seaman of Long Island, I can lay claim to him as my own. Right now I'm working on that elephantine project, along with Jim Rubins and others, of updating Mary Thomas Seaman's _Seaman Family in America_ published in 1928. So if you have data that you would like checked against ours, if you think Capt. John belongs in your line but you aren't sure, ask away. And if you have data that you would like included in our project, please contact us. We will protect the privacy of the living and will document all contributors to the project. However, this is not to say that the descendants of Capt. John are the only lines that are represented on this list. There are many other Seaman families from England, Wales, Germany, Switzerland, and elsewhere. Only by comparing our individual data to see if there is a fit, will we all begin to understand how we are related. So now some suggestions. Whenever you post a message, please include all dates or approximate dates and locations that you have. Don't be afraid to make your message long enough to convey all the information you have and to ask specifically for what you want. The more information you can give the more likely that is to happen. Even though you may not find the exact answers to your own question, connecting with other researchers may result in giving you new leads for your own research. So let's all post our brick walls and our successes to help all of us as we enter our 5th (!) year as researchers of Seaman families. Carolyn Seaman, listowner

Over the next couple of weeks you will see fluctuations in your ability to access our Seaman mailing list and our archives. I will have limited ability to access the administrative tools which are used to add and delete subscribers. BTW, our mailing list is on server list5 (see below). I will keep you posted as best I can. >From Rootsweb: "The following resources are currently disabled or will be soon, due to the upgrading: any websites beginning www.rootsweb.com (including our main page), websites on Freepages, RootsWeb Surname List (RSL), Archiver (browsable mailing list archives), and mailing lists on lists3 and lists5 (which will also impact list administrator functions for those lists), and most versions of File Manager (online editors). During the transition, Password Central may show some incomplete listings, especially for Post-em Notes." What does this mean to you? It means that some list mail might be delayed in being delivered (don't worry, it won't get lost - just delayed). Carolyn Seaman, listowner
