According to "History and Genealogy of THE PEARSALL FAMILY in England and America" By Clarence E. Pearsall 1928, James Pearsall Married Mary Seaman born November 23, 1732, daughter of John Seaman and Mary Stephens. Though, "Long Island Genealogies" by Mary Powell Bunker claims John Seaman who married Mary Stephens (daughter Mary married a Pearsall) was born in 1761. Clearly a date problem. If anyone could help me with other references that may clear up this relationship, I would greatly appreciate it.

I just discovered the following website: http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ny/topic/quaker/marcerts/MarriageCertificatesContents.htm Contained on the website are the Quaker Marriage Certificates from several "upstate" monthly meetings, including Chappaqua, Cornwall, Nine Partners, Oswego, Plains, Purchase, and Hudson, as well as three meetings in Connecticut. The only certificates on thesite are those which have ben submitted by other researchers; however, the documentation is good. An interesting aspect is that the certificates are presented in full, including the names of the witnesses. Some of the representative names include Carpenter, Powell, Hawxhurst, Haviland, Birdsall, Weeks, Sutton, Seaman, etc., etc. All this leads to my question: I found on this list a certificate for Samuel Seaman and Rhoda Reynolds who m. in 1829. He was the son of Samuel Seaman and Martha ???. Rhoda Reynolds was the daughter of Zeno Carpenter and Elizabeth his wife. Parents are all deceased at the time of the wedding which took place in the town of Cornwall, Orange Co., NY and is recorded in the Cornwall MM Vital Records. Witnesses include Anna Seaman and husband Samuel T. Seaman, Willet Seaman and Isaac Seaman. I can't identify Isaac but I have placed the others. I had thought that the father, Samuel Seaman, could be the same Samuel Seaman who married Martha Reynolds. This couple lived in Poughkeepsie and their dates suggest them as good possibilities to be the groom's parents. However, Mary Thomas Seaman says that Samuel and Martha had seven children whom she names, and Samuel is not one of those children. Any ideas?

Hi List, I am reposting this info in case there is any new information out there. We are researching my husbands ggrandfather. Oral history says that they were from New York, but in the 1870 census, William is living alone in a boarding house (before he got married or between marriages, he was widowed) in Missouri, and he states his Place of Birth as Canada West (which is present day Ontario) (he is 45 in 1870, which would make him born in 1825). Does anyone out there have any connection to him, or a connection to a family of Seaman's which migrated from NY to Ontario, or any families of Seaman's living in Ontario in this time period? (Ontario was called Canada West from ca 1820 - 1860, I believe) Thanks, Linda Seaman ~~Linda Seaman Researching: WORDEN, DUNN, ELLEFSON, JAKEWAY, GENSLER, FELKNER,WETMORE, MERICLE, HATCHER, ZACHOW; DECHANT, FOX, DONEY, STRICKLAND, HOLLISTER, GOODRICH, TREAT, HARTWIG (HARTWICH, HARTWICK), BIEKER; SEAMAN, CARDER, TUNNEL(L), DUNLAP, MIDDAUGH; TRIGG, VERMILLION, RODGERS, RIGGS, SMITH (Smiths only from before early 1700's) and related lines.
