Dear Listers: Update on Lt. George Seaman of Lewis County, Kentucky: At the May 1865 term of the Lewis County Circuit Court, George was "in custody", and his brother David G. Seaman posted bail of $200 in at least 3 actions against him to guarantee his appearance at the November term. That's in Civil Order Book # O, which is at the Kentucky Archives in Frankfort. George appeared in November, and several of the cases were dismissed in November. It has occurred to me that there may have been other indictments against him in other counties. If any of you look at Court Records in the Ohio Valley in that era, please watch for indictments concerning Lt.George W. Seaman, Company C, 2nd Kentucky Mounted Rifles, Confederate from 1862-1865. He served under Humphrey Marshall at the Battle of Middle Creek when he was in the 5th Kentucky Infantry of Northeastern Kentucky. That's the one that was disbanded after a year, Not the Orphan Brigade. Thanks. Marilyn in San Diego

I would like to subscribe to your list in hopes of finding proof that my John Mott (1658/1659 - 1725) of Hempstead NY is the same John Mott who married Sarah Seaman, daughter of Capt. John Seaman who was born in Essex England 1603/1610 and died in Hempstead 1695. John Mott was the son of Adam Mott (1616-1690) of Essex and later Hempstead. John had a son John, followed by three generations of Samuels, and then my great, great grandmother Catherine Mott Kellum. With the English pattern of naming, there must have been lots of John Motts running around Hempstead! Can anyone help me or tell me more about Sarah?? Paula

Johanna, I don't think that you've got the right Susan. The daughter of Richard Seaman and Elizabeth Cortelyou died in 1811 and probably never married as her death notice in the New York Post listed her as just Susan Seaman with no indication of a married name. There is, however, at least one other Susan Seaman that you might consider. She was the daughter of Richard Seaman and Sarah Searing and was born 1790. I have no other information about her. Good luck and keep us posted. Carolyn M. I've "rescued" two old photographs belonging to the SEAMAN Family. The first is a photograph of Frank F. SEAMAN taken at the Penny Studio in Reading, PA. The photograph was probably taken in the 1890's or early 1900's with Frank appearing to be in his 60's at the time. The second photograph is of Grandma SEAMAN born 1848, also likely taken in the 1890's or early 1900's. I'm hoping to locate someone from the family so that the photographs can be returned to their rightful place with family. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
