I am descended from the Seaman's who went to Berkeley County, Virginia (later West Virginia.) My forebear is Jonah Seaman (born about 1780, in Darkeville, Berkeley County, VA). He married Jane Downey. This cluster of Seaman's is of great interest. Any help on them would be most welcome. Hi, Would either of you know anything about a John Seaman born in Virginia date unknown who had a dau named Abigail who married John Gaddis. In a biography of John and Abigail's son, Rees, it says that John Seaman was born in Virginia of Welch(?) descent and that he moved to Cincinnati in the early 1800's and had a house on the banks of the Ohio. Abigail and Rees lived with him for a time before migrating to Green County, Ohio and finally to Tazewell County, IL. That is all I know. ANY clue would be helpful. Have you tried the on-line 1881 UK census? I found my folks there -- eventually. (The census taker apparently got the info from a neighbour, since he had no birthdates etc. Thus the family would NOT show up in a name search!) You can also search the index for 1901 for free. That can confirm where they were living. (Mine had moved from Sedgeford to King's Lynn, except for those who had already emigrated.) You might also try various spellings. I've been told the 1901 UK census was copied in India, which I could believe since my great uncle was listed as a LEAMAN and from Narfold (as if there were such a county). p.s. I couldn't believe how common the name Seaman is in Norfolk/Suffolk until I started digging. :-(
Hi! I have 2 John Seaman's. One is Capt. John Seaman the other is his Father. Capt. John's Mother was Anne Hicks. So Hicks Seaman could be Capt. John's son. However I don't have a record of him. Sorry I can't be of any further help then that.
