Thank you Wilma. So, John Strickland, his wife Jane (Fenwick) and their children came to Long Island, NY. Right? Do you know who all their children are? I would like to follow the other Strickland lines. Thanks. Sally >From: Wilma Fleming Haynes <[email protected]> >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: RE: [SEAMAN] Capt. Regarding Elizabeth Strickland: Daniel Carman states she is "erroneously identified as Elizabeth Strickland." [NGC, 12-31-94] "It was formerly asserted that the first wife of Capt. John Seaman was a dau. of John Strickland, but examination of existing records proves this to be a mistake." [See "Miner and Allied Families of CT and L. I.," Lillian Lounsberry (Miner) Selleck, New Haven, CT, 1928, p. 166; also printed New York wills. See Also TAG, Vol. 11, pp. 153, 197-198. I haven't really examined this problem in depth myself, however, so don't know who was Capt. John's 1st wife. The above is all I have on her. Listers: My research has brought me to the point where I'd like to confirm that the Seamans of Adams County, Ohio are related to the Seamans of Roane County (W)Va. Is there a recommended company that collects Seaman DNA? Marilyn in San Diego.

I posted this as a matter of interest, and to (possibly) provide some additional information. "Maria" is likely an error, as it goes on later mentioning her name as Martha in her fathers will. When someone is described as being "of" someplace, it means he lived there, nothing more. This suggests Thomas More immigrated, which may or may not be the case. Symonds is one of the many variations of the Seaman family name. Perhaps that is the spelling they used - perhaps not. Use what you can, and proceed with caution. Sometimes a secondary source like this can be useful later. Mike
Hello. Have you tried going to www.switchboard.com? You can put in a surname and search the whole country. Of course, it helps if you have some given names as well because there are a ton of SEAMANs out there from NE area (Brits) and from PA area (mostly Palatines with Swiss or German ethnicity), none of whom are connected to Capt. John SEAMAN of NY. ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Thursday, April 14, 2005 9:47 PM Subject: [SEAMAN] Milton LeBaron Seaman of Houston TX This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.
