We have an inscription for this woman on a family bible saying Thorpe Hall. However, there is no record of the Seaman's ever having lived there. There is also no Sarah SEAMAN living in Thorpe on the 1851 census. On the same bible but in different writing is pencilled 'great aunt'. We also have old recipe books handed down in the family which have her name. So far all the rest of the family come from the St. Pancras, Middlesex area. Any help would be appreciated. I have several references for the name Seaman in Norwich and Norfolk if anyone is interested. Gill Blanchard gblanchard@whitwellresearch.demon.co.uk

Posted by: Robert Langford Subject: ISAAC SEAMAN Message: I have an original copy of "The Lodge Record" Watertown NY dated October 15, 1898 which states the following obituary: "Cortland News. Cortland NY, Oct 8 - P.G., Isaac Seaman; the first Noble Grand of Vesta Lodge, No. 255 of Cortland, N.Y. died at his home in Cortland, September 16, aged 82 years. A large number of Odd Fellows attended his funeral from the different Lodges of the district. Vesta Lodge conferred the Initiatory Degree on two candidates October 3. There were a numer of visiting brothers present from Lodges at Dryden, Rome, Scott, Watertown, Cincinnati and John L. Lewis Lodge of Cortland. After Lodge closed a banquet was served in the dining room. All went home feeling that htey had passed a pleasant and profitable evening. E.B." I hope this helps someone in the Seaman family with their family tree/geneology.

She married TOWNSEND STITES February 2, 1812 in Cape May, NJ (Source: http://www.humboldt1.com/~cealbert/surnames.htm, Albert Family Tree <cealbert@humboldt1.com>.), son of JOHN STITES and SARAH TOWNSEND. There is also an unconfirmed assertion that Elizabeth Seaman, [daughter of Capt. John Seaman and Martha Moore, Capt. John's second wife,] moved to Cape May, NJ and died there. There is no reason given for her move or if she was married. She just arrived in Cape May and then later died there. 1.
