    1. [SEAMAN-L] John & James SEAMAN
    2. Terry Wilson
    3. It's a new year/century/millennium so I'll repeat a question I previously posted. I am looking for a James Grummon SEAMAN Sr b abt 1802 who m Mary CRONK/KRUNK/CRONKITE b abt 1801 in Jersey City NJ or Bergen NJ on 29 Jun 1822. They ended up in Wayne Co NY in the 1840 census. Also looking for his parents, John and Joan/Joanna GRUMMON/GRUMMOND. I have no firm dates on them but they were having children in the 1790-1805 timeframe. Supposedly they lived several years on Ellis Island & were booted off when the government took it over. Any assistance will be appreciated. ===== Terry Wilson 40 S. 1. [SEAMAN-L] Willet Seaman of New York
    2. Marilyn Steber
    3. Listers: Records of the Chancery Court Province and State of New York, Guardianships 1691-1815, Abstracted by Dr. Kenneth Scott for the Holland Society of New York. (Sorry I don't have the date of the book's publication. I can get it for anyone who needs that.) Page 32 a Petion 27th June 1774 of William Wright (age upwards of 19) son of Adam Wright, late of Oyster Bay, Queens Co., dec'd praying that John William Seaman of Jerico, Oyster Bay may be appointed his guardian. The sureties are Willet Seaman, Distiller, and Jacob Seaman both of New York City. Page 52, Petition 5 January 1788 of Richard Jackson Seaman (age about 16, of Queens Co.,) setting forth that by the will of his grandfather, dec'd he is entitled to a legacy and praying that his uncles, Jordan Seaman and John William Seaman, may be so appointed his guardians--Richard is about 16 years of age. Willett Seaman of New York City, merchant is surety for Jordan Seaman and John William Seaman, both of Queens Co. Guardians. Page 75, Inquisition (20 May 1794) into lunacy of James Winchial of New York City, Cordweiner. He has children, James Winchiel, jr (age about 17) and Harriot Winchial (age about 12 or 13) Afffidavits of Samuel Dodge, Keeper of the Alms House of New York City, and Willet Seaman, a Quaker, as to the lunacy of James Winchiel. Question: Are we seeing the same man here? I have a Willets Seaman who was in Morristown, NJ as a black smith in 1772, was captured by the British in 1776, held until 1778, who I believe was my ancestor. If anyone can help sort these men out, I would appreciate assistance. I have read that when Mary Searing and Willets Seaman were wed, it was not approved because they were married outside the Quaker faith, but the children of these two are named in Quaker records, rather peculiar for someone who got out of the faith. Did Willet of New York get out of the "booze biz" and convert? Is there a record of this conversion in a Meeting? Any ideas? Thanks. Marilyn in San Diego

He has now disposed of his business to John Cruthers. He then opened a meat market, but sold that, and is now retired from active business. During the Civil War Mr. Seaman was drafted, but on account of his business interests he sent a substitute.
