2. John, The dates you see are listed with the year first, month second, and day third. The example you gave would read 'September 6, '79.' Now, if you can just find out whether a 17, 18 or 19 goes in front of the 79, you'll be in business! Good luck in your search. Brenda Stambaugh Slaven

I am the site/list coordinator for the ROOTWALKER genealogical website for northern middle Tennessee. Since many of our ancestors moved back and forth across the Tennessee/Kentucky state line, I thought it would be appropriate to announce the ROOTWALKER site and the researcher's mail list to people in southern Kentucky. The ROOTWALKER region covers the 26 counties of northern middle Tennessee. These counties are shown on a map on the website. The ROOTWALKER website address is; http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnnmid/index.htm Rootwalker Genealogy Pages for Northern Middle TN--Home Page There is a place on the first page that the above address takes you to that says to sign up "here" for the researcher's mail list. Another way to sign up for the researcher's mail list is to send an email to; TN-ROOTWALKER-L-request@rootsweb.com Type one single word into the body of the text of the email. That one single word is SUBSCRIBE . Do not add any other words into the body of the text. Then, the computer will recognize this single word as a command and automatically subscribe you to the mail list. 2. Fred Williams
3. Hi, I would like to welcome you all to this list, I believe you will find this list a good one, because we do not have a lot of chit chat going on the cludder your boxes with recipes and alike. We talk about any genealogy related subjects in Eastern Kentucky, not how to make a pot roast like some of the lists you may have seen. Some how I got talked into taking on two sites, I have never done any webpages before, so I am now asking for volunteers for this www's. http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ky/county/pike1/ and http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ky/county/morgan1/ Any information about these counties and/or photo's etc. will be of great help, also if you know anything about writing pages please join me. Anyone who helps will receive full credit for whatever they contribute. Thank you, Fred Williams __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! 1. [East-KY] 1920 Perry Co census Book Vol I for sale
2. Hi Folks, I hope this is appropriate to post this here. I sure don't want to step on any toes. Some of you know already that me and a couple of cousins are transcribing the 1920 Perry Co Ky census. Well, its been a big project with probably over 30,000 names and we are now half way done. Whew!!! The coal mines really made the population boom in them hills! We thought we'd put it in "book form" for those who don't do computers. (Its not on line yet, and we don't know, right now, when we will get it on line) It would make a nice Christmas present. So now we have Volume One of the two ready for sale. Maybe early next year we'll have Volume # 2 ready for Mother or Fathers day. We are NOT out to make any profit off this. So the Rock Bottom "NO" profit cost is $47.80. That Includes shiping & handling. 569 pages with GBC binding so it will lay flat on desk or copier, All persons index. It took the 3 of us 10 months to complete this first half and we feel it is very comprehensive and true to the original census. Email questions to CrashedOne@aol.com or to me at LyndaCG@aol.com REMEMBER, This is not a profit making project. Send payment to: Jimmie CrashedOne Combs 180 Circle Dr. Bridge City, Tx. 77611 Thanks, Lynda Combs Gipson

2. Nancy DeVore Williams
3. Can anyone give me an idea of where or how to try to find a family that was in "Powell's Valley" around 1784 - 1790 (maybe earlier) and gone by 1798. The name I am looking for is Jesse Craven who had a son Jesse Craven born in 'Powell's Valley' at about this time. I am an old genealogist (LOL!) but vey very new to research in this geographic area and I am having a hard time narrowing down my search. Do relevant census records exist that could help? Would 'Powell's Valley' refer to an area that encompasses NC, TN, VA AND KY or are there specific counties that I should check first? I have tried many different searches to no real avail and if someone could point me in the right direction I would be very grateful. BTW, sorry if you received mutiple postings. I'm not sure what the differences are or how much duplication is involved in these different maillists. THANKS a bunch for your time. Nancy DeVore Williams
