    2. Hi Pat, Have you checked War of 1812 or the Old War records? Since Hannah and Unknown married between 1810-1815, it would put Unknown in the right category to have served in the War of 1812 or the Old Wars. However, this would be like looking for a needle in a haystack, but it's worth a shot........... 3. Hello All, I am researching two Smith lines, starting with Benjamin Smith, 1820, Clay Co., his son, Milton Smith, and first wife Sally Smith. Who were Sally Smith's parents? Sizemore - Clay and Leslie--- Rhoda, John, William, Russell, Sam and Sophia. Wilder - Clay -- Aggy Wilder, Milton Smith's second wife, d/o Rhoda Sizemore, and Joseph Wilder. Would like to know the father of some of the children she possibly brought into the marriage with her. Maybe, a Begley, or Sizemore? Would anyone have a copy of Milton and Aggy Wilder's marriage documents? Sent to Clay Co. for them, and the woman wrote back it was missing. If anyone was able to get one before it came up missing, would you please get in touch with me? Morgan -- Harlan, Clay and Leslie-- Lucinda Morgan, d/o William Morgan and Nancy Sargeant. Brock---Gemima Brock, d/o Aaron Brock and Barbary Shepherd. Simpson - Clay and Leslie---Andrew Simpson, and his son Isaac Simpson, would like to know Andrew's parents? Smith's of Leslie Co.---Isaac Smith & family.....Grassy Branch area, Hoskington. Other families, Asher, Napier, Lewis, Roberts. I would appreciate any help on my earlier Smith's, Benjamin and Milton, I haven't been able to find out which Smith family they connect to. Some say the Thomas Smith family. Thanks, Pauline (Smith) Wing ----- Original Message ----- From: <SE-KENTUCKY-D-request@rootsweb.com> To: <SE-KENTUCKY-D@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, February 27, 2002 11:38 AM Subject: SE-KENTUCKY-D Digest V02 #6

    1. [SE-KENTUCKY] Researching Mullen(s)/Mullin(s) and collateral families...
    2. Gang, it would be easier to tell you what I don't know than what I do know! At this point, I don't even know what counties to search in KY! Collateral surnames include, Jolley/Jolly, Hoots, Young, Carter, Forgay, Williams, Six, Baggett, Marsh, Totten, Fugate, Taylor, Frey/Fry, Stoneburner, et al. At this point, the collateral lines are the most likely method of determining connections. Here's my sad genealogical tale: My Mullen(s)/Mullin(s) "brick wall" has long past "research" and reduced me to grasping for "genealogical straws" and praying for miracles, i.e. documenting/analyzing any Hannah m to any Mullen/Mullin in the US about 1810-1815...and checking the collateral surnames for connections in NC, KY, TN, VA, WV, VA...and IL, MO, AR, KS, NE, OK and NM! BRICK WALL: Hannah (maiden name unknown) m (given name unknown) Mullen/Mullin about 1810-1815 (probably in NC, KY, TN, VA or WV). The ONLY firm documentation thus far for Hannah is: 1850 Federal Census, Scott Co., IL - and I think she was widowed and in McDonough Co., IL in 1840, but not absolutely certain. Per 1850 census, Hannah Mullen, age 57 (b abt 1793), b NC. Several of her younger children were living with her; one or two older ones were married and living nearby, and still others are unaccounted for. In 1860, Hannah Mullen (age 64 b NC) was living in Scott Co., IL with Solomon Hoots m her daughter Nancy Mullen. No information re parents, siblings, extended family or ancestors of either Hannah or her husband...due to lack of his given name and/or Hannah's maiden name and/or marriage information. Assumptions re Hannah ?? & ?? Mullen: ...Hannah ?? b abt 1793-1796 NC (marriage among cousins was common event during this time period, so it is possible her maiden name was Mullen/Mullin); ...?? Mullen b abt same time (probably in TN, KY, VA, WV, NC -- or perhaps he immigrated to US prior to their marriage (no idea "from where" or "to where"!); ...Hannah ?? m ?? Mullen probably in NC, TN, KY, VA, WV about 1810- 1815; ...?? Mullen died in Mexican Territory, TX about 1836. (The last children were born in TX in 1830s. Texas was not yet a US state and then owned by the Mexican government. In an effort to encourage population of the TX territory the Mexican government gave authority to impresarios to gather and relocate Irish immigrants; and, as an inducement, grant land to those who came to "Irish Colonies" in Mexican Territory. Unfortunately, the Mexican government gave "vague" documentation...and assigned the SAME property to both impresarios to be granted to those who came to populate the "Irish Colonies"! As could be expected, it was not a successful venture and there were numerous conflicts. My assumption is Hannah Mullen's husband was killed in one of these conflicts around 1836. Thus far, I have no proven documentation re her location during 1840s. NOTE: Documentation has been found confirming that James Forgay Mullen and Aden Mullen were in TX Territory as early as 1829 and they requested survey of land in 1835; however, there is no documentation to suggest they received land grants. There is no indication they were in location with Hannah Mullen and her family or any other individuals with known surnames. Known children include: James Forgay Mullen, b abt 1816 KY; d 1890 Weakley Co., TN, m Oma Jolley* in IL. They lived most of their married life in Weakley Co., TN. Eli Carter Mullen, b abt 1822 TN; d 1860 Washington Co., AR; m Frances Rilla Jolley.* Frances moved to Barry Co., MO where she d 1893. Alice (Alcey) Mullen, b abt 1827 TN, m Allen Burton 1848 Scott Co., IL If this is the correct marriage, it lasted only 2 years. No info on her after divorce. Solomon Mullen, b abt 1828 IL; d 1868 McDonough Co., IL; m Alpha Baggett in Washington Co., AR. 15 years after his death, Alpha Baggett/Mullen 2nd m James P. Logan in IL. Nancy Mullen, b abt 1830, Scott Co., IL, m Solomon Hoots 1846 Scott Co., IL IL; Hannah Mullen was listed in their household in 1860. Andrew Mullen, b abt 1831 TX; It is possible his middle name is Jackson. Abriam "Abe" Mullen,** b 1834 TX, d 1860-1870 AR; m Elizabeth Watts. She moved to Scott Co., IL and 2nd m King David Totten...they later moved to Vernon Co., MO where he died. Other possible children -- unproven -- probably all born prior to 1816 in KY & TN -- include: Joseph "Joe" Mullen DOB/DOD/location unknown...probably KY or TN; John Mullen DOB/DOD/location unknown...probably KY or TN; James Allen Mullen b 13 Nov 1813, Morgan Co., IL; m Unity Fugate 7 Sept 1837; D 28 Oct 1884, Schuyler Co., IL...is related to Hannah Mullen in some way...I think! Aden I. Mullen, b 1816 Ireland, is associated with this family in some way (he was in household with Hannah Mullen and her children in 1850 census, Scott Co., IL); he married at least 3 times & deserted all wives/children (possible he is a brother to ??
