I'm proud to announce that there's a great new reference available to KY researchers at the KYGenWeb Archives. The "Narrative of the 1873 Cholera Epidemic in the United States" (KY section) has been uploaded to the archives. You'll find both actual images of the original report and a transcription of same. This narrative covers the entire state, and lists physicians and in some instances, patient names and death dates. The URL of the new file is http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ky/state/cholera/1873_cholera.html. The text transcriptions (11 parts) are also available in the KY-Footsteps Archives at http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ky/ky-footsteps/2003/apr.html. Feel free to pass on to others. Happy Hunting! During WWII a lot of good men went to war. My cousin brought back a good German dog he took off an officer who no longer need him. Once again the men of the Hills gave all. Lots of silver stars and congressional medals of honor are packed away in trunks. Pictures hang on the walls in many homes of men of honor who fought for God and Country. FREEDOM is what we are about. The price was paid with the precious blood of our sons. President Harry Truman said he didn't want and Nazi SS people brought in the country. However politicians and such were in a race for space. The Germans were ahead with the U2 missles and we wanted their technology. Records were falsified. During those years personnel files were written in pencil. A lot of erasers were worn out I feel changing those German SS records. Yes, a lot of the scientist and others who belonged to the SS were taken to our airforce bases and put to work. I can feel the impact from them around here. There are building codes that the houses have to be painted the same colors in some areas. We are supposed to have freedom of speech and say what is on your heart and mind. Yet we are being suppressed on what we are allowed to say now. This is not what my ancestors and relatives fought for. Are we slowly loosing our rights. Just don't seem American. More Nazi than anything in my book. It is disapointing to say the least. I agree however that in geneology research that it should remain pure. Jerry Kelly/Kelley
Good Morning, Please check your mail often. I am receiving a lot of bounced mail because of full mail boxes. If you get unsubbed, that is the reason. If you are going to be away for several days, just unsub from your lists and then resub when you return. Good Morning, Below are pertinent portions of a message sent to list administrators by Rootsweb. Please keep this in mind as the week progresses. Any politacal posting will be dealt with by immediate unsubbing from the lists. Thanks, Norma Subject: [LO] [Important info] Keeping lists to genealogical topics, not political matters ===8<==============Original message text=============== Hi List admins, It is [a] period of intense political times when emotions and opinions will run high in many directions. The simple issue is that RootsWeb is for genealogical research and not for political discussions. Equivalent political situations have been known to cause significant disturbances and needed intervention by admins and occasionally by staff. RootsWeb asks all admins to reinforce where necessary to their subscribers the basis of the mailing lists and their provision by RootsWeb to users, and, where necessary, take reasonable actions to maintain the focus of mailing lists. Please be firm but nice. Good luck, we will all need it. RootsWeb cannot and will not be supportive of list administrators who encourage political discussions on mailing lists. from - Middletown, Ohio Family Page: http://www.angelfire.com/oh/myfamilygenes Gentry Records Page: http://members.tripod.com/~nanny_4/index.html

Forwarded FYI from the Archives-CC mail list... my apologies if you get this on more than one list. Sherri Hi Everyone: The old genealogy scam is back. www.genseekers.com Behind the password protection are links to the free genealogy on-line. There is no content of their own. In order to get the "5-day free trial" you have to surrender a credit card or bank account number. You have to cancel within 5 days or you get dinged. Guess what? The cancellation e-mail bounces. Does this surprise you? One person who recently fell for the come-on had his/her account dinged not once, but twice. It is time to remind folks on your state and county mailing lists about these scoundrels. It has been a couple of years since we have mentioned this. Permission is granted to pass this on.

Here is the Marrs line I am working on. 1-5 were given to me by a lady who has researched the greater Marrs family. Number 6 and elements of number 5 are from personal family records. We are trying to decide if they truly coincide. The circumstantial evidence seems to say they do: 1. William Erskine Marrs- came to America abt. 1720 | 2. Samuel Marrs (1740-1817) m. Francina Bradshaw in PA | 3. John Marrs (b. 1772, Augusta Co., VA, d. abt. 1800, Jessamine or Bourbon Co., KY) m. Mary (Polly) Laird (John died when children were young. Polly married Peter Poindexter) | 4. Samuel Marrs (b. 1791, Tazewell Co., VA, d. ca. 1850, Parke Co., IN - or maybe 1838) m. Jane Hinds (after Jane's death, Samuel married the widow Betsy Uttinger in Jessamine Co., KY. They moved to Hendricks Co, and then Parke Co., IN, had several children together there.) | 5. Samuel Marrs, Jr. (b. abt 1816, Jessamine Co., KY. d. 1860, Williamson Co. IL.) m. Eliza A. ? (This is our loose connection-- that is, I need to prove that this is indeed the same Samuel Marrs who is the father of our Thomas Jefferson Marrs, #6, below. I have located T.J. in Williamson Co. in the home of his father, Samuel Marrs- but is it the same Samuel Marrs? It would seem so, but only circumstantial evidence at this point.) Olivia, A descent listing would be great! The earliest Maggard in the southeastern Kentucky region was Samuel Maggard who married Rebecca Robertson. They were the parents of: John B., Susannah, Rudolph, Henry, David, Margaret, Sarah, Samuel, James, Moses, Rebecca and Elizabeth. Perhaps you are related to one of these! I'd appreciate your help. The descent listing would also be printed in the special booklet being prepared for the event. I will be happy to hear from you. Gertrude Gaylor Nolan

I am sending this note to everyone in my address book. I didn't want to miss anyone ....... :-) I would like to take a minute to tell you of a new website done by my friend, Sherry Frazier. Her site is devoted to Owsley County, Kentucky .... it's families; their histories and genealogy. She has done an awesome job!! When visiting her site, you may also read about the formation of the much needed Owsley County Historical Society. We hope you will want to be a part of this group; especially if you have ties to the county. Take a peek.....! http://owsleykyhist.org Thank you, Golden ( goldie@prtcnet.org ) http://www.stampers.org PS: To my friends that have written and got no response during the past couple months; please accept my apologies. My husband has been very ill; been in and out of the hospital. Combining that with our move ... needless to say, things have been hectic. He is, however on the road to recovery (say a prayer!) and we are getting settled in.... I am now going back through my emails and trying to catch up..... thank you all for being so patient. You are the BEST!!

I usually send out about 10 obit pictures at a time,, you type those pictures into text format and send me the text copy back and delete the pics when you no longer want them,, simple huh... When I get them all back,, as many as possible will be linked to the online cemetery listings we have on the site.. At the moment I have over 1400 pics of obits, if you wish to do any of these just send me an e-mail and let me know, the obit pics will only be send to you by e-mail, after they are transcribed they can be sent back to me in text in e-mail, or they can be attached to an e-mail in almost any text program except WPS..
