    1. Re: [SDTURNER] SDTURNER Digest, Vol 6, Issue 2
    2. I wish I could do more to help in your search for the history of Turner Co., SD, but just in case you don't get any better offers... I was born in Parker, in Turner Co. in 1933. We moved to Belmond, Iowa in 1936, so obviously I have almost no memory of the area. But because my mother was born in that county (in Chancellor / Germantown) and was married there, I have done and continue to do some research there for my (Meyer) family tree. But distance (we live in SE Iowa) and time seem to keep such research down to a minimum. My father's side of the family lived near and in Lennox, in Lincoln Co., bordering Turner Co. I do know that the Lennox library has a Centennial book on Lennox. It includes history of that area. My paternal grandparents moved there in 1884. I might be able to answer, or get answers for, a few specific questions on Turner Co. Also I would be glad to see what I can find for you when I have opportunity to be in Lennox, but I have no idea when my next visit can be, possibly in late June. Sorry this is not much help. Virgil Bunjer (Meyer, Valentien, Herren, Fischer and others)

Author: janfortado1 Surnames: Gallagher Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.southdakota.counties.turner/232.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I was delighted to receive your message on the message boards. A few years ago I found a tree on ancestry and although there was no author, the tree had note and in the notes was the name Kevin Gallagher. I have tried since that time to find Kevin but was unsuccessful. It is likely that all of the Gallaghers in Glanworth parish descended from one person, although there could have been two brothers, I suppose. They came down from Donegal in 1601 to fight at the Battle of Kinsale and so left Donegal some time ago. I am working with two different people to try to connect all of these families. We still have some missing pieces. We think all of the families came out of Ballynamongaree. If you look at a map, you will see that the townlands the Gallaghers settled in were contiguous to one another. I have visited the original house on the land where the blacksmith shop was located. I have researched land records when I have been in Ireland and it does seem that some of the Gallaghe! rs emigrated when their lease was up. In one case, you can see that the owner of the land simply took it all over himself. It might be easier to communicate via email address as we cannot attach anything to this web site. If you would like to do that, my email address is janfortado@comcast.net I look forward to hearing from you. Jan Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
