I had read on the SD Genweb site that Centreville was founded about 1879 and that led me to wonder if it was likely that this couple would have gone there to get married by a Justice of the Peace. Seems from your information that might have been unlikely? This couple was living in Volin (Twp 94, Range 54, I'd have to do some research to come up with the section numbers) before they married. The town of Volin was founded by Ellen's brother Henry P. Volin, and his brothers Joseph J., John B., and cousin Louis D. Volin. It doesn't make sense that they traveled (admittedly a short distance) to Centreville to get married at a Post Office or a Mill. My information also says they were married by Joseph West, a Justice of the Peace. There is a Joseph West who lives in Volin who was a farmer and a witness for several Volin family documents, but no evidence that he was a Justice of the Peace. I guess they could have been married on someones farm ! near Centreville, thus the reason for the location. Thanks for the history, I'll keep looking. Syd

(Yes, I know that Centerville is in Turner County!!!). Any idea whether I can find any record of this marriage, including a newspaper mention? Where should I look? Yankton County and Turner County Registers of Deeds say there are no records that old. Marquis Fauver was living in Volin and I presume that so was Ellen. Thanks for any help.
